The Opportunity


The co-op student assigned to Animal Services will be participating in a program formalized between the Town of Caledon and area school board(s) or other educational institutions with a focus on Business Administration and Animal Services.


This program has been designed to assist students to satisfy graduation requirements by attaining hands-on work experience through a co-op placement. To be eligible, candidates must be enrolled in a co-op program through an accredited educational institution.


In this role, you will perform the following duties, including but not limited to:



  • Perform general housekeeping duties including laundry, clean and disinfect kennels and
    outdoor enclosures, cat cages, grooming area, kitchen, storage areas, washroom, and
    office etc.

  • Exercise and socialize animals within the care of Animal Services

  • Monitor and document animal health and behaviour and ensure immediate concerns are reported to the Supervisor

  • Assist with the processing of adoptions, redemptions, and ensuring animals are properly
    tagged for identification

  • Participate in staff meetings and training programs as required

  • Support Administrative Staff (data entry, filing, answering phones, monitor general inbox)

  • Assist with Records Management

  • Inventory of supplies, equipment

  • Assist with Special Events (logistical arrangements, promotion, on-site support)


The Ideal Candidate


We are seeking a passionate professional:



  • Enrolled full time in an accredited secondary institution

  • Currently enrolled in a co-op credit course

  • Effective verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suites and Teams at a minimum.

  • Demonstrated organizational skills.

  • Ability to work effectively in a sensitive environment

  • Student must be able to provide their own form of transportation.


Workplace Setting



  • Primary work location would be Animal Shelter, 12889 Coleraine Dr, Caledon ON L7E 3B5. From time to time the student may be required to provide administrative support or attend as an observer within neighboring facilities.

  • General environment consists of standard on-site office environment

  • Moderate physical activity; lifting up to 50lbs, bending, twisting and working in adverse weather conditions

  • PPE worn on a regular basis 

  • Regular exposure to animals, inclement weather, odors, noise 

  • Regular exposure to stressful situations. May be exposed to some conflict and emotionally charged situations


Satisfactory passing of a criminal record check, and proof of qualifications may be required of any successful candidate(s) for this position.
