The Human Resources Intern will assist the HR department in supporting various HR functions and contributing to the positive employee experience across the organization. This role involves helping with recruitment, onboarding, employee support, and HR administration, while learning about the breadth of HR activities. The Intern will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in HR processes and support the team in creating an engaging and compliant workplace.
Term: Fall 2024 - 4 or 8 months - two options: September 2026 to December 2026 or September 2026 to April 2027. Regular work, Monday to Friday, Job duties take place in our office at North York. Work involves frequent computer use.
Note: This is a fully on-site unpaid internship opportunity.
Key Responsibilities
Recruitment, Selection, and Onboarding
Assist in the recruitment process by helping with job postings, coordinating job fairs, shortlisting candidates, scheduling interviews, and conducting reference checks.
Support the HR Generalist in onboarding new employees, including processing offer letters and providing information on salary and benefits.
Participate in the orientation and training of new hires to ensure a smooth and positive onboarding experience.
Help manage staff and student training records to ensure compliance with internal training requirements, including AODA, WHMIS, and Health and Safety.
HR Administration
Contribute to the creation and maintenance of job descriptions, job postings, and the staff intranet.
Maintain employee records, help with onboarding and ensure all required documentation is collected and filed.
Support the regular auditing of employee files and assist with annual compliance audits. Support for Staff and Volunteers
Act as a liaison between staff and management to ensure effective communication and support.
Other HR Activities
Collaborate with the HR Generalist on HR best practices and continuous improvement initiatives.
Participate in workplace investigations and contribute to various HR projects such as performance management, recognition programs, and training development.
Assist with organizing staff events.
Minimum Qualifications
Enrolled in Post-Secondary education in Human Resources Management, Business Administration program, or a related field and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Current vulnerable sector screening (criminal background check).
Fully Vaccinated or two dose of Covid vaccination.
Strong computer skills using MS Office – Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Sharepoint.
Strong office administration skills including accuracy, organization, ability to multi task, and computer knowledge.
Basic understanding of Employment Standards, Human Rights, and other employment-related legislation.
Ability to make decisions and work independently, strong personal ethics, integrity, reliable, time management and organization skills.
Excellent relationship building, communication and interpersonal skills. The ideal candidate will be able to work independently in a dynamic, complex environment and organize time and workload effectively.
