The Municipality of Strathroy-Caradoc is currently accepting applications for a temporary IT Intern. This position is expected to start in February 2026 for 6 (six) months.

 


Position Summary:


Under the supervision of the Manager of Information Technology, the IT Intern will be responsible for assisting the Information Technology department in building and maintaining the IT infrastructure for the Municipality.


This position is intended as a structured learning opportunity for a student or early-career individual seeking broad exposure to municipal Information Technology operations. The IT Intern will rotate through and assist with multiple IT disciplines including end-user support, infrastructure, networking, cybersecurity, cloud services, and audiovisual systems, under close supervision and mentorship. Emphasis is placed on skill development, documentation, observation, and hands-on experience rather than independent ownership of systems.

As a member of the Municipal team, each employee is responsible for serving the citizens of Strathroy-Caradoc by meeting the ratepayers’ needs and expectations, as articulated by Council, by striving to be the best in everything we do through attitude, training, and creativity, and for representing the Municipality as a strong, integrated organization dedicated to quality, sustainable and viable services.


Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Assist with troubleshooting and gain familiarity with hardware, software, and network operating systems under supervision

  • Assist with administrative support functions for the department

  • Assist with desktop support requests, escalating issues as required

  • Assist and support end user equipment requests

  • Shadow IT staff to learn troubleshooting methodologies, system administration tasks, and municipal IT standards

  • Assist in maintaining current and accurate inventory of technology hardware, software and resources and follow disposal procedures

  • Assist in authoring documentation for hardware, software and systems

  • Assist in authoring user training material, knowledge base documents and “How to’s”

  • Assist with the installation of hardware, software, and workstations

  • Ensure operating procedures and workplace safety regulations are followed to comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

  • Gain exposure to additional IT functions such as audiovisual systems, meeting room technology, mobile devices, and cloud-based services as opportunities arise

  • Flexible working hours – occasional evening or weekend work may be required to support municipal operations or special events.

  • Other related duties as may be assigned from time to time.

  • All work performed by the IT Intern will be carried out under the direction and supervision of permanent IT staff, with responsibilities and access appropriate to a learning-focused role. The IT Intern is not expected to independently administer production systems or make unsupervised changes to municipal IT infrastructure.


Qualifications:



  • Enrolled in or have completed post-secondary education in computer systems technology, computer programming, cybersecurity, or equivalent

  • Demonstrated interest in learning across multiple IT disciplines

  • Ability to ask questions, follow procedures, and document work clearly

  • Excellent interpersonal, written, oral and public relations skills, with a focus on customer service excellence by adhering to the Municipality’s Customer Service Standard Policy

  • Understands and works within the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulations, and any Municipal policies and procedures

  • Must have a valid class “G” Ontario Drivers licence with a satisfactory driver’s abstract

  • Working knowledge of Windows 11, Linux, Microsoft Office and computer devices

  • Computer literacy utilizing various tools and applications

  • Ability to work successfully with a team or independently

  • Ability to consistently maintain a high degree of confidentiality

  • Provide a satisfactory Criminal Record Check prior to starting employment

  • Must be legally authorized to work in Canada

  • This position is suitable for a co-op placement, summer student, or internship as part of a post-secondary program


Compensation:


Wage: Band 1 – $17.75 - $22.19 per hour (2025 rates)
