Job Description - Knowledge Management Legal Student (1L), Summer 2026

Job Description:

We are ready to take this game to the next level and need someone passionate to support the organization’s GAME ON strategy and work in a dynamic environment combining public and private law and public policy, in the heart of Ontario’s gaming industry. The Knowledge Management Legal Student is a new position within OLG’s in-house legal team in which a 1L law student will focus on supporting the development and maintenance of a centralized legal knowledge repository. There may be opportunities to assist with other legal matters in a wide range of practice areas including commercial law, regulatory compliance and litigation. You will be part of a busy in-house legal team and work closely with and be mentored by lawyers at OLG who bring experience from major law firms, multi-national corporations, and provincial regulators.

YOUR ROLE IN THE GAME

The primary focus of the Knowledge Management Law Student role will be supporting the development and maintenance of a centralized legal knowledge repository.  Responsibilities include collecting, reviewing, categorizing (by area of law), and summarizing a variety of legal artifacts and reference materials, and uploading these documents to the central repository.

In addition, and as required throughout the term, the student may be asked to assist the in-house legal team in the following ways:

  • Providing legal analysis in areas of law including: commercial, marketing and advertising, gaming, technology, constitutional, administrative, real estate, intellectual property, internet, procurement, municipal, freedom of information, privacy, human rights, and employment.

  • Providing legal support to further OLG’s business and strategic objectives in the areas of internet gaming, lottery, sports betting, land-based casinos, charitable gaming, and OLG’s social responsibility initiatives.

  • Assisting with the review, development and implementation of internal policies and processes addressing legal and regulatory compliance requirements, risk management measures, and industry best practices.

  • Working on litigation and compliance matters.

This role runs from May to August, and you will be required to work in-person at your designated work location in Sault Ste. Marie five days per week.

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Excellent academic performance

  • Interest in public service

  • Interest in areas of legal practice offered at OLG, and the ability and enthusiasm to work in a wide range of legal areas

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with individuals with diverse backgrounds

  • Ability to effectively work with a variety of lawyers and business colleagues in both a team environment and independently if required, with a client service focus

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

ELIGIBILITY:

  • Currently enrolled as a student in a law degree or joint-law degree program (J.D., joint-J.D., or equivalent of either), with successful completion of 1L studies expected prior to start of summer term (anticipated May 2026) and graduation from the program expected prior to August 2028.

  • Legally entitled to work in Canada
