ABOUT SAMU 


 


The Students' Association of MacEwan University (SAMU) is a non-profit organization working independently from MacEwan University to support students. Our purpose is to enrich the student experience by focusing on their non-academic needs through an array of student-driven programs and services.



We are governed by elected student representatives who set the strategic vision on behalf of students. With support from over 50 full- and part-time staff, we keep our mandate student-focused to achieve the vision.

PURPOSE

This position is responsible for selecting, training, and leading the promotional team (Promo Squad) at SAMU. They will also assist the marketing department in other areas as required, such as: SWAG procurement and inventory management, social media support, campaign execution, content creation, market research, and marketing administration.

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES


 


Promo Squad (75%)



  • Recruit, select, train, and retain Promo Squad volunteers.

  • Plan workshops and other relevant events to foster growth and community among volunteers. ‘

  • Plan and coordinate Promo Squad themed shifts (E.g., St. Patrick's Day, Valentine's Day).

  • Order and distribute promo squad-specific items and giveaways for promotional uses.

  • Collaborate with the Student Leadership Promo Assistant on promotion plans, scheduling, and ideas as needed. 



Marketing Administration (20%)



  • Keep up to date with general documentation (E.g., shift logs), reporting and training modules.

  • Assist with selecting, ordering, and inventory general SAMU promotional items and giveaways.

  • Assist with conducting market research (including focus groups, surveys and data analysis).

  • Assist with applicable marketing campaign execution

  • Assist with submitting and receiving print assets and other items from internal and external vendors

  • Assist with the procurement, tracking, sorting, and inventory management of SAMU SWAG items. 



Others (5%)



  • General administrative tasks, including proofing and testing as required.

  • Assist with events, promotional tabling, and other related activities.

  • Other duties as allocated by the Marketing and Communications team.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE


 



  • Preference will be given to current MacEwan Students registered in a minimum of one class during either Fall or Winter term.

  • Enrolled in Marketing, Communications or other related Certification/Degree program. 



KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES



  • Proficient with Microsoft 365 and Google Drive

  • Strong organization skills and attention to detail

  • Excellent communication (written and oral), interpersonal, and team-building skills

  • Outgoing personality and not afraid to approach students, start conversations and be in front of a camera if needed.


 


WORKING CONSIDERATIONS


 


Light Work – Frequent standing and walking; occasionally required to lift up to 20 lbs and assist with set up for meetings or events.


 


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT


 


Up to 25 hours/week, with office hours between 8:30 am - 4:30 pm. Will work around the student's schedule. Some evening and weekend work may be required.
