Job Description - Marketing Associate

Role Overview



Smart City Water (SCW) is hiring a Marketing Associate to help expand VO (Visual OTTHYMO) into the U.S. market.


 


VO is hydrologic and hydraulic modelling software used by engineering consultants, municipalities, and watershed agencies to analyze stormwater systems and support infrastructure planning.


 


This role focuses on research, marketing campaign execution, and lead generation.


 


You will work with technical material related to stormwater modelling and water resources engineering, translating it into clear and useful marketing content.

Work Structure



  • 6-month contract, with potential extension

  • Hybrid schedule: 2 days in office, 3 days remote; Could be asked to come into the office as needed. Occasional periods of full in-office work may be required

  • Office location: Woodbridge, Ontario

  • Reports to: VO Business Unit Manager



Key Responsibilities



Research & Lead Generation



  • Conduct research on U.S. states (initial focus: TX, NY, PA, MI, OH)

  • Identify engineering consultants, municipalities, watershed authorities, and regulators

  • Research organizations using modelling tools such as SWMM, HEC-HMS, MIKE SHE, or similar platforms

  • Build structured lead lists and maintain accurate CRM records



Marketing Campaign Execution



  • Support the development of landing pages and marketing campaigns

  • Draft structured email sequences targeting: 

    • Engineering consultants

    • Municipal reviewers

    • Agencies and regulators



  • Launch campaigns and track engagement

  • Route qualified leads to the Business Manager



Social Media



  • Prepare weekly content for LinkedIn and X

  • Translate technical VO material into clear educational posts

  • Share: 

    • Feature highlights

    • Case studies

    • Industry insights

    • Upcoming VO releases





Reporting



  • Track lead generation and campaign performance

  • Provide daily progress updates and weekly summary reports

  • Identify opportunities to improve campaign results



General Marketing Support



  • Assist with website updates and marketing materials

  • Support the VO Business Unit’s Marketing Made Simple strategy

  • Contribute to other marketing initiatives when needed



Example Work You May Do



  • Research stormwater modelling regulations in New York State

  • Identify engineering firms using SWMM or HEC-HMS

  • Draft a LinkedIn post explaining how VO improves modelling workflows

  • Build a targeted email campaign introducing VO to engineering firms

You likely have:



  • Degree in Marketing, Business, or Communications

  • Experience with CRM systems, email campaigns, or digital marketing tools

  • Strong writing ability

  • Ability to translate technical material into clear messaging


 


An engineering background is not required, but comfort working with technical content is important.


 


This Role Is Ideal For



  • Early-career marketers who enjoy research and structured work

  • Candidates who want hands-on experience building real marketing campaigns



Compensation



  • $27–$33 CAD per hour

  • 30–40 hours per week

  • 6-month contract with potential extension

  • Performance reviews at 30 and 90 days


 


Candidates with strong CRM, campaign execution, research, or lead generation experience may be considered toward the top of the range.



This position is supported by the NRC IRAP Youth Employment Program. To be considered, applicants must meet all funding eligibility requirements.

  3. The program requires the participant to hold a completed university degree from an accredited post‑secondary institution.
