Material Characterization Co-op

Purpose of the Role

As a Material Characterization Co-op, you will support Svante’s research and development efforts focused on carbon capture technology and sorbent industrialization. In this role, you will participate in material characterization activities, follow established study plans, use laboratory instruments, and assist in method development and optimization.

You will work with structured sorbents, perform data analysis, prepare technical documentation, and support daily laboratory operations. You bring strong attention to detail, a commitment to safety, and a passion for materials science and experimental research.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Strong interest in materials science, porous materials, polymers, or metal–organic frameworks.


• Interest in chemical synthesis (lab scale), wet chemistry, and sample preparation; hands‑on experience is an asset.


• Interest in sorption and sorbent characterization techniques (e.g., TGA, DSC, DVS, XRD, EDS, PSD, FTIR, sorption units, breakthrough units, mass spectrometry); practical experience is beneficial.


• Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail.


• Strong commitment to safety and adherence to laboratory guidelines.

Bonus Skills and Qualifications

• Experience using standard or custom‑made lab instruments.


• Exposure to scientific data analysis, uncertainty analysis, or method optimization.


• Experience preparing technical documents such as SOPs, reports, or presentations.

• You successfully participate in material characterization activities by following study plans, using lab instruments, and interpreting scientific data.


• You contribute to method development, optimization, and experimental uncertainty analysis.


• You support broader R&D initiatives within the structured sorbent industrialization team as required.


• You prepare clear and accurate technical documentation, including reports, SOPs, presentations, and IP‑related materials.


• You reliably complete assigned lab tasks, including operations support, routine instrument health checks, and maintenance.


• You uphold strong safety standards and consistently follow laboratory procedures.
