Mechanical Design Engineer (Co-op)

As a self-motivated Mechanical Design Engineer at Zaber, you’ll have a co-op term filled with challenging, hands-on projects with a mix of design work and project management. This is a great opportunity if you are detail-oriented and interested in seeing how companies work together on product development.

You’ll work within one of our engineering teams to assist with the design and development of new and existing Zaber products and processes. Our mechanical, electrical, and software engineers will support you, and you'll have full access to our well-equipped machine shop, which includes a waterjet, laser cutter, lathes, mills (both manual and CNC), and numerous other tools.

By joining Zaber, you’ll contribute to the manufacturing of precision motion control equipment for applications in fields such as photonics, biotechnology, aerospace, and semiconductor engineering.

Mechanical Design Engineer Responsibilities:

• Design, manufacture, and test new fixtures, mechanical components, and electro-mechanical device prototypes
• Prepare solid models and manufacturing drawings for new and custom assemblies using SolidWorks
• Measure, evaluate, and improve manufacturing efficiencies
• Collaborate with Marketing, Production, Electronics, and Mechanical Design Engineering teams to develop and improve products and processes

Mechanical Design Engineer Desired Qualities:

• Passion for mechanical systems and hands-on experience (experience with precision equipment an asset)
• Excellent communication skills and attention to detail
• Ability to self-manage and prioritize multiple tasks
• Programming knowledge in Python or C# an asset
• Machine shop experience an asset
• Currently enrolled in a degree or diploma program

Mechanical Design Engineer Details:

• Wage: The starting wage for the role is $24 - $28/hour depending on experience.
• Closing Date: September 26, 2026
• Start Date: January 4, 2027
• Length of position: 8 months preferred, 4 months optional
