Job Description - Mechanical Engineering Technologist/Technician Internship (NSCC 2025)

GeoSpectrum Technologies Inc., (GTI) specializes in underwater acoustic transducers and systems and has been recognized as a leading provider of specialized acoustic equipment for a variety of applications including military sonar (multistatic-active, passive, mine hunting), marine mammal monitoring, and ocean observation. GTI’s ability to provide integrated, end-to-end sonar systems, including everything from software to handling systems, sets us apart from the rest.



We are currently looking for an Mechanical Engineering Technician/Technologist to join our team for their work placement. The successful applicant will join our manufacturing team with a focus on mechanical assembly and test of complex underwater acoustic components and systems. We’re looking for someone detail-oriented and passionate about their work, with an ongoing desire improve their skills.



Responsibilities:



  • Work within our experienced manufacturing team of skilled engineers, technologists and technicians to produce cutting edge marine acoustic technology

  • Assembly of transducer products and systems, including; mechanical assembly, bonded assembly, encapsulation and inspection

  • Product testing, including; hydrostatic pressure testing, load testing, product characterization using a variety of test devices and methods and environmental testing

  • Complete and maintain product build and test verification documentation. Assess product compliance to established quality standards

  • Maintain product documentation including assembly and test procedures

  • Support and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the manufacturing group

  • Operate within a dynamic manufacturing environment in a safe manner, adhering to all safety precautions and procedures including the use of appropriate protective equipment

  • Supporting and ensuring adherence to our Quality Management System



Qualifications:



  • High mechanical aptitude with experience in mechanical assembly

  • Experience with equipment for underwater use, bonded assembly or encapsulation considered an asset

  • Detail-oriented and well organized

  • Experienced in reading engineering drawings, BoM’s and manufacturing procedures

  • Competent with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook

  • Passionate about build and test and producing a quality product

  • Good teamwork and communication skills

  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment including safety shoes and respirator
