Location:                  Kenora, Ontario (In-person)

Position Status:    1 continuing, full-time position. This is an existing vacancy.

Under the direction of the Underground Services Supervisor, the Meter Reader is responsible for collecting an accurate and efficient meter reading to ensure the City of Kenora Water & Wastewater provides correct information to customer service/billing and residents. This individual will answer customers’ questions about their water meter, services and charges, and direct them to the correct department.

Duties:

• Always follow the scheduled monthly cycle to read City’s residential and commercial water consumption meters and enter data on hand-held data loggers.


• Have a good knowledge of city streets and each location


• Walk or drive along established routes to take water meter readings


• Verify readings in cases where consumption appears to be abnormal and record possible reasons for such abnormalities.


• Inspect meters for illegal connections, defects, and damage such as broken seals.
  


• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Grade 12 or equivalent.

• Valid Class G Driver’s License.


• Must be willing to receive training in WHMIS and First Aid and upgrade as required.


• Must be able to walk for prolonged periods of time, with no restrictions.


• Must be in good health, good physical condition and be willing to take a medical if required.


• Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.


• Knowledge of the Safe Drinking Water Act as it pertains to Water Distribution systems.


• Ability to climb ladders and manipulate tools and objects requiring manual dexterity.


• Ability to bend, stoop and shovel, lifting up to 90 pounds.
