HOURS OF WORK: 15-20hrs weekly September 2026 – April 2027 (4 hour shifts will be scheduled during Monday to Friday)

The Dalhousie Student Union (DSU) is an incorporated non-profit with the objectives of:
acting as the official representative organization of Dalhousie students;
serving as the medium of communication between Dalhousie students and the governing bodies of the University;
encouraging Dalhousie students to have an awareness of their responsibilities in the local, provincial, national, and international community;
providing services and programming that enhance student life in a financially, socially, and environmentally responsible manner.

OVERVIEW
The DSU Operations Assistant provides on-site support for DSU managed spaces, including public space in the Student Union Building, requiring consistent oversight, maintenance coordination, and operational assistance. We focus on proactive management to reduce issues, improve efficiency, and maintain building systems. Additionally, this role will be available to support on site programming and other special projects as required.
Job Duties (include but not limited to):
Ensuring common areas remain safe, clean, and operational
Assist with data entry and maintain daily shift reports
Daily building oversight and operational monitoring
Coordination of routine maintenance and service providers
Basic facility maintenance and issue reporting
Support for tenant and departmental requests
Energy efficiency and energy management support
Oversees postering and removes any unauthorized materials on building surfaces
Coordinates mail and package delivery to DSU departments
Assists with daily furniture and equipment placement
Sits on Health & Safety Committee
Other projects and duties, often involving physical labour, as required or assigned by the General Manager
Requirements:
Current Dalhousie student in good academic standing
Requires significant physical range of motion; must be able to safely lift and/or move up to 40lbs. Must be comfortable performing physical labour.
Attention to detail in all areas of work
Excellent communication and organizational skills
Professional written and verbal communication skills
Ability to interpret policies/procedures and apply them in practical situations
Able to multitask and meet deadlines
Must be able to work independently and maintain a positive and calm attitude within a very busy environment.
Highly flexible, with solid interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse working environment.
First Aid certification an asset
