Outreach Intern (1 vacancy) 

OBI’s paid internships are competitive and offer unique training opportunities for you to learn, to be mentored, and to develop valuable “beyond the bench” skills to help launch your career.  You will work in a stimulating environment while gaining experience that will assist in advancing your career path.  Past interns have leveraged the opportunity into vibrant careers in companies and not-for-profit organizations where employers value the quality of OBI interns.  

Interns are assigned to a specific team and work collaboratively across teams within OBI to broaden experiences as part of OBI’s mandate to train the next generation of leaders in Ontario’s neurotech cluster.  OBI internships run for a six-month term starting in May.

The Outreach Intern will work both independently and with the team to contribute to exciting ongoing activities, including patient engagement, knowledge translation, evaluation and communications. The intern will be involved in the following activities:   

• Supporting the process of identifying potential partners and designing pilot projects at the intersection of OBI’s GEEK program and Integrated Discovery Programs that integrate clinical brain health data with community-based resources to improve brain health. 

• Facilitating and supporting patient engagement and knowledge translation activities in partnership with the OBI Integrated Discovery Programs. 

• Planning and organizing events and workshops with stakeholders in the brain health community including researchers, patient partners, and community organizations. 

• Providing support for projects that help to develop, disseminate, evaluate tools to promote brain health. 

Requirements 

The ideal candidate has a degree in a health or wellness related area including social sciences, neuroscience, life science, or other health related field. You understand the importance of brain research rooted in community engagement and are committed to improving wellness and brain health of others.  

You are creative, self-motivated and thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. You have experience in managing multi-partner relationships and value critical reflection on how to reduce barriers to participation. You are versatile and flexible in your ability to coordinate multiple tasks and anticipate and modify your work plans to meet evolving priorities.
