We thank you for your interest in obtaining placement with the John Howard Society of Durham Region (JHSD). We are a non-profit, social service agency dedicated to serving all individuals, families, youth, and adults in programs in areas such as Community Justice, Employment and Training and Housing/Residential Services.
If you are interested in a placement at JHSD, please ensure you review the detailed process below, which explains the required steps for consideration. All our placement opportunities are
in person.
Steps for Applying to Placement:
STEP ONE
Submit your resume, cover letter, and respond to the included questions through this portal.
Note: You should receive an immediate confirmation email after you submit your application. If you do not, please check your junk/spam folder.
STEP TWO
You will be invited to a virtual information session via Zoom, where you will have the chance to meet program leaders and learn about the opportunities available for placement. Attendees who participate in this session are given priority throughout the application process. If you have any concerns about being able to attend the information session, please communicate these concerns to us.
Following the information session, students with a continued interest are invited to complete a placement screening application (given following the session) and will indicate their area(s) of interest. Upon completion, these will be sent to program leaders for further consideration.
STEP FOUR
If selected, students will be invited to interview with the program mentor or designate. You will also further discuss the placement position, expectations, and next steps to ensure the opportunities will meet your curriculum goals.
STEP FIVE
Confirmed placement candidates will be invited to attend an agency orientation session to complete necessary JHSD paperwork. During that session, a personnel file will be created and several documents pertaining to approaches and policies will be reviewed and signed.
