Programs and Events Assistant (Summer Position - Canada Summer Jobs Program)

The University of the Fraser Valley Student Union Society (SUS) is a BC Not-For-Profit Society representing and serving UFV students. The Society manages the Student Union Building and facilitates services such as the UFV U-PASS, food services, and the student health and dental plan.  SUS also provides support to an active community by organizing events and provides wellness and developmental programming.  As the official representative body of UFV students, our mission is to be an inclusive community that provides high-quality, accessible programs and services. Programs and Events Assistant

Work Schedule: Full-Time, Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week
Duration: July 13 to August 28, 2026
Salary: $19.23 per hour
Reporting to: Programs and Events Coordinator

The UFV Student Union Society (SUS) is looking for a motivated and creative Special Events Program Planner to support the planning, coordination, and delivery of SUS events, programs, and student engagement initiatives.

This temporary summer role is a great opportunity for someone looking to gain hands-on experience in event planning, student services, campus programming and community engagement. The successful candidate will assist with the development and execution of SUS events and programs, support Clubs and Associations, and help identify new and innovative ways to connect with students on campus.

The Special Events Program Planner will work closely with SUS staff across departments, communicate with students and Clubs and Associations, liaise with vendors and suppliers, and support the overall success of SUS programming.

Key Responsibilities

Day-to-day tasks may include, but are not limited to:

• Creating event detail forms, floor plans, budgets and related planning documents


• Supporting safety, security and event approval processes


• Assisting with event set-up and take-down


• Supporting the on-site execution of events and programs


• Helping ensure events run smoothly, safely and successfully


• Following up with staff after events to collect data, feedback and recommendations


• Reaching out to local businesses and building relationships to support and improve the Student Perks Program


• Communicating with Clubs and Associations through Rubric, the online clubs management platform


• Reviewing Club and Association registration packages and event requests


• Proposing creative ways to promote, support and recognize Clubs and Associations on campus


• Assisting with general administrative tasks related to events, programs and student engagement
  

Qualifications and Skills

The ideal candidate will have, or be willing to develop, the following skills:

• Event Planning: Basic event planning or event support experience is considered an asset


• JEDI Awareness: An understanding of the importance of Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion in student programming and community spaces


• Customer Service: Ability to provide friendly, professional support, solve problems and demonstrate patience


• Communication: Ability to communicate clearly and professionally by phone, email and in person


• Computer Literacy: Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office, Slack, Basecamp and Rubric is considered an asset


• Organization and Time Management: Ability to manage tasks, meet deadlines and support projects within a set timeframe


• Adaptability and Flexibility: Ability to adjust priorities, take on projects with minimal notice and help prepare backup plans for events and programs


• Teamwork: Ability to collaborate with staff and support day-to-day SUS operations


• Professionalism: Strong work ethic, good judgment, initiative, confidentiality and a high degree of professionalism

This is a temporary summer position from July 13 to August 28, 2026. The role is well suited for someone interested in gaining experience in event planning, student engagement, campus programming, non-profit work and student services.
