Job Description - Reactor Physics Intern (Nuclear Engineering)

This is a Full-time 16-month role commencing May 2026



For this role in Oakville, Ontario, The hourly wage range for this position is CAD $25 to $35 per hour. The actual wage offered will be determined based on factors such as education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, applicable market data for the work location, and internal equity considerations.



Come join us at Terrestrial Energy, a US developer of advanced, Generation IV nuclear reactors.  We are growing our workforce to develop and deploy our Integral Molten Salt Reactor (IMSR) small modular nuclear plant to provide cost-competitive, clean firm heat and power to industry.


 


The Company has recently completed a merger creating a publicly listed operating company  (NASDAQ “IMSR”), to secure the capital resources for our next growth phase.  With the current alignment of US Federal and State government, as well as industry interest in Small Modular Reactor (SMR) and advanced reactor technologies such as Terrestrial Energy’s IMSR, there is today a unique and compelling opportunity to participate in the execution of the company’s growth business plan.

The Reactor Physics Intern, under the direction of the Physics Manager, is primarily responsible for performing reactor physics analyses and design assessments using reactor physics computer codes and analytical techniques.  


 


Other Responsibilities Include:



  • Perform sensitivity analyses of postulated design concepts and options for reactivity control and power regulation

  • Programming in MATLAB and scripting of complex algorithms within both a WINDOWS and LINUX environment

  • Analyze graphite performance and graphite structure in a high radiation environment of a molten salt reactor

  • Communicate and work with various technical disciplines to understand system design(s) and interfacing requirements

  • Prepare written reports of assessments

  • Exposure to nuclear design concepts, principles, regulations, codes and standards.

Requirements:


Education



  • Master’s degree in Nuclear Engineering or Engineering Physics (either currently enrolled or recent graduate)


Technical Skills



  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

  • Some knowledge of state-of-the-art Monte Carlo calculation computer codes (such as MCNP, SERPENT and SCALE)

  • Proficient or working knowledge in MATLAB


Professional Skills



  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Flexibility to adjust to shifting priorities and deadlines

  • Strong attention to detail and organization

  • Effective communication skills within a technical team environment



Assets:



  • Work or intern experience in physics, with focus in reactor physics. 

  • Experience in deterministic codes

  • Experience in Nuclear Power

  • Experience in Radiation Protection

  • Knowledgeable in molten salt fueled nuclear reactors and graphite moderator
