Job Title: Research Assistant
Reports to: Manager, Advocacy and Research
Department: Advocacy and Research
Duration/Term Length: Up to two (2) years, subject to semester-by-semester renewal
Compensation: $18/Hour
Work Hours: Approximately, but not limited to, 15 hours a week within normally scheduled operating hours, in addition to mandatory evening/weekend meetings. Hours may vary depending on the time of the semester.
Location: Hybrid (remote and in-person), with rotation across all campuses as necessary.
Overview
Reporting to the Manager, Advocacy and Research, the Research Assistant supports the
development, collection, analysis, and dissemination of research that informs CCSAI’s advocacy priorities, programs, and strategic decision-making. The Research Assistant assists in designing and administering surveys, conducting qualitative and quantitative analysis, preparing reports and briefing materials, and translating student data into accessible insights for internal and external stakeholders.
Duties and Responsibilities
Research Specific Duties
- Supports the design, deployment, and administration of student surveys, focus groups, and consultations;
- Assists with data cleaning, analysis, and interpretation using qualitative and quantitative research methods;
- Prepares research summaries, briefing notes, reports, and presentations for CCSAI staff, the Board of Directors, and external stakeholders;
- Maintains accurate and secure research documentation using CCSAI-approved platforms (e.g., Qualtrics)
- Conducts literature reviews and environmental scans on post-secondary policy, student success, affordability, and related issues;
- Collaborates with Advocacy, Communications, and Student Experience teams to translate research findings into accessible materials;
- Supports evaluation and reporting for advocacy initiatives and student programs;
- At the request of the Manager, Advocacy and Research, attends CCSAI and College meetings or events to support research activities;
- Other duties as assigned by the Manager, Advocacy and Research.
Administrative and Frontline Support
- Ensures consistent engagement with the student population to support data collection and research participation;
- Maintains working knowledge of CCSAI initiatives, advocacy priorities, and College affairs relevant to research projects;
- Participates in and completes all position-related training;
- Understands and acts in compliance with CCSAI bylaws, policies, and procedures, the Corporations Act, Human Rights legislation, and all applicable laws, as well as Centennial College rules, regulations, statements, and policies;
- Maintains confidentiality when handling sensitive, personal, or identifiable student information;
- Provides timely initiation and response to email (ensuring appropriate contacts are included in any correspondence), telephone calls and on-line interactions from constituents, CCSAI and College staff and other external partners, participate in CCSAI online communities;
- Other duties as assigned by the Manager, Advocacy and Research and/or
Qualifications
- Strong interest in research, policy, advocacy, or student affairs;
- Demonstrated attention to detail and ability to manage confidential information responsibly;
- Strong written and verbal communication skills;
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment;
- Experience with surveys, data analysis, research methods, or academic
Eligibility
- Must be currently enrolled as a full-time Centennial College student upon applying, and for the duration of the term.
- Demonstrate good academic standing.
- Must have a valid Social Insurance Number (minimum 6 months to expiry).
- Mandatory evening/weekend meeting attendance.
- Available to travel to all campus locations.
