ABOUT SAMU 


 


The Students' Association of MacEwan University (SAMU) is a non-profit organization working independently from MacEwan University to support students. Our purpose is to enrich the student experience by focusing on their non-academic needs through an array of student-driven programs and services.


 


We are governed by elected student representatives who set the strategic vision on behalf of students. With support from over 50 full-and part-time staff, we keep our mandate student-focused to achieve the vision.

PURPOSE


The Part-time Brand Ambassador serves as the main on-camera talent for SAMU’s video content, acting as a spokesperson to promote SAMU’s programs, services, and events. This role is ideal for a confident, outgoing student who enjoys being on camera and engaging with peers in a fun and professional setting while promoting SAMU’s initiatives.

RESPONSIBILITIES



  • On-Camera Talent & Engagement - (70%)

    • Serve as the primary on-screen representative for SAMU’s video content.

    • Deliver scripted and unscripted content in an engaging and confident manner.

    • Participate in interviews, event coverage, promotional videos, and social media content focused on SAMU programs, governance, services and events (event times and locations may vary, including off campus).

    • Represent SAMU’s brand and values in a relatable and professional way.

    • Help build awareness of SAMU through the development of an on-screen personality with a solid understanding of SAMU and its programs, services and events.

    • Increase engagement and awareness of Governance and SAMU Elections through video focused on applicable aspects of Governance as needed.

    • Engage with students authentically to create a strong connection between SAMU and its audience.




  • Content Preparation & Collaboration - (20%)

    • Work closely with the Digital Marketing Coordinator and Videographer to understand video concepts and messaging.

    • Review and practice scripts or key messaging points before filming.

    • Provide input on ways to enhance video content for student engagement.

    • Assist in brainstorming creative ideas for video campaigns.




  • Building Branding Initiative – (5 %)

    • Assist the Marketing Director and Coordinator with Brand initiatives and projects as needed.




  • Other – (5%)

    • Other duties as assigned by the Marketing Services Manager

    • Attend meetings with other SAMU departments to understand their video marketing needs and expectations.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE



  • Preference will be given to current MacEwan Students registered in a minimum of one class during either Fall 2025 or Winter 2026 term. 

  • Enrolled in a Diploma/Degree program for Design, Communication, Business (Marketing), Fine Arts, or other related fields 

  • Prior experience in acting, public speaking, hosting, or similar roles is an asset.



KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES



  • Strong verbal communication skills with a natural ability to engage audiences.

  • Ability to express enthusiasm and convey messages clearly on camera.

  • Ability to memorize or quickly adapt to scripts and key messaging.  



PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS



  • Outgoing personality and comfortable being filmed in various settings (live events, promotional content, interviews, etc.).

  • Basic understanding of social media trends and student engagement strategies.



WORKING CONSIDERATIONS



  • Sedentary with Light Physical Effort – Sitting, Standing, Walking, Kneeling, Lifting – up to 50 pounds, Manual Dexterity 


 


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT


 


Up to 25 hours/week, with office hours between 8:30 am - 4:30 pm. Will work around the student's schedule. Some evening and weekend work may be required.
