Shared Services Accounting Co-op Student

As an accounting student with our Shared Services team, you will be a key team member who assists in our monthly and quarterly processes relating to Treasury Accounting and Employee Services Accounting. You will also assist the Team Manager with the administrative duties related to our CPA Pre-Approved Program and aid in identifying continuous improvement opportunities. 

Under the General Accounting - Shared Services umbrella are Treasury Accounting and Employee Services Accounting. Treasury Accounting is responsible for the accounting aspect of cash transactions at Irving Oil, include deposits, cash movement between companies, long term debit and interest accruals, as a few examples. Employee Services Accounting is responsible for the accounting aspect of people costs at Irving Oil, including its pension plans, bonuses, severances and government and supplier remittances, as a few examples. The Shared Services team sits within our Home Office with our Finance Group. 

Responsibilities:   

• Monthly journal entries relating to Treasury Accounting and Employee Services Accounting 

• Monthly reconciliations journal entries relating to Treasury Accounting and Employee Services Accounting 

• Quarterly journal entries relating to Treasury Accounting and Employee Services Accounting 

• Quarterly reconciliations journal entries relating to Treasury Accounting and Employee Services Accounting 

Your Skills:   

• Strong attention to detail and analytical thinking skills  

• Excellent time management skills with the ability to work towards fixed deadlines 

• Effective collaborator and a team player 

• Willingness to participate in projects and other team initiatives as  

• Solid knowledge of MS applications: Word and Excel especially 

Your Experience:   

• Currently enrolled in a Business Administration program completing 2nd or 3rd year of study with a strong interest in accounting or finance 

• Must have completed at least 1 year of post-secondary education and be returning to school
