Summer Student – Art Centre Assistant

The City of Kenora is looking for students for summer employment! This is your chance to be part of a dynamic and innovative team of professionals who work hard to ensure the best possible experience for all of our residents and visitors. Reporting to the Director of the Muse, students will have the opportunity to work with Art Centre staff on projects such as assisting with research, educational programming, and exhibit curation. Students will also share responsibility for front desk reception, including admissions, and gift shop sales at both locations. Students may also have the opportunity to be assigned special project tasks which may involve assisting with preventative conservation, collections management, exhibit mounting and dismantling, and general maintenance.



Qualifications:



  • Must be a full-time student in the 2025-26 school year at a secondary or post-secondary education institution and be returning to school full-time for the 2026-27 school season

  • Must be available to attend and complete mandatory safety training and orientation

  • Candidates must be enrolled in a post-secondary program in history, museum studies, library sciences or a related field would be an asset 

  • Prior GLAM (Galleries, Libraries, Archives, Museums) experience would be an asset 

  • Cash handling and report writing experience would be an asset 

  • Must be available to attend and complete mandatory safety training and orientation 



  • Working knowledge of Mac and Apple based applications 

  • Possess good communication skills with an ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions 

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Excellent customer service & interpersonal skills with the ability to deal with the public with tact and diplomacy

  • Valid standard First Aid or AED training would be an asset

  • Candidates enrolled in a post-secondary program in history, museum studies, library sciences or a related field would be an asset



Hours:     35 hours per week Monday to Friday, including some weekends, evenings and statutory holidays. 


Rate:       $19.33/hr


 


Students will be required to provide the City with a clean vulnerable sector criminal record check and proof of enrolment if successful in a summer position with the City of Kenora.
