Job Description - STUDENT - Forestry

Department: Transportation Services Department


Location: Winchester Springs Patrol + travel within SDG Counties


Term: May to August 2026 (approximate 4-month term)


Pay Rate: $18.50 per hour


Hours of Work: Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (35 hours per week)



Summary:



Reporting to the County Forester, the Forestry student will assist in the overall management of the County Forests. The main duties will include support of forestry maintenance activities, including, but not limited to, assisting with tree felling/removal, property and trail inspections, supervision of roadside tree activities, tree planting, weed trimming and maintenance at planting sites, basic carpentry, roadside weed inspections, sign installation, liaising with various stakeholders, in-office administrative work (e.g. report writing, filing, record keeping) general maintenance/repair of forestry equipment, and other general housekeeping duties.



Qualifications:




  • be a student who is enrolled in full-time post-secondary studies in the fall;

  • possess a valid Class G Ontario driver’s licence;

  • possess good interpersonal skills and pay special attention to safety and detail;

  • Experience with small tools is considered an asset. 



Successful applicants will be required to provide a driver’s abstract indicating a clean driving record, prior to commencement.



This posting is for an existing seasonal vacancy with a planned start of May 2026.
