ABOUT SAMU 


 


The Students' Association of MacEwan University (SAMU) is a non-profit organization working independently from MacEwan University to support students. Our purpose is to enrich the student experience by focusing on their non-academic needs through an array of student-driven programs and services.


 


We are governed by elected student representatives who set the strategic vision on behalf of students. With support from over 50 full-and part-time staff, we keep our mandate student-focused to achieve the vision.

PURPOSE

The purpose of the Student Groups Administrative Assistant is to provide day-to-day support within the Student Groups Department, addressing inquiries from student group members and general students and directing them to the appropriate resources. As well as aiding the Manager and Coordinators of Student Groups in their duties.


 


SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES


 


Reception and Clerical Duties – 45%



  • Greet, welcome, and assist students and guests in the student groups space (SA-214).

  • Answer the phone and transfers

  • Answer emails and forward messages to appropriate staff.

  • Assist with photocopying, scanning, and

  • Compile and file relevant student group documents on Sharepoint.

  • Monitor student group poster boards and check validity of

  • Ensure accuracy of information on student groups

  • Assist with student group inventory and equipment

  • Assist full-time SAMU Staff with administrative work on request


 


Office Administration – 30%



  • Review and Approve student group advertising

  • Review and Approve student group equipment sign out

  • Manage classroom and meeting space bookings for student

  • Assist with the planning of department led student group


 


Cleaning and Maintenance – 10%



  • Monitor and ensure the upkeep of student group rooms and locker

  • Maintain a tidy work area at the student group front desk.

  • Maintain the organization of the student group storage


 


Other – 5%



  • Assist with other projects and duties as assigned

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE


 



  • Preference will be given to current MacEwan Students registered in a minimum of one class during either Fall 2026 or Winter 2027 term.


 


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES


 



  • Excellent verbal and written communication

  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to

  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and work co-operatively within a team.



 


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS



  • Previous experience being involved in student groups is an asset.

  • Previous administrative experience is an asset.



WORKING CONSIDERATIONS


 



  • Light EffortSitting, Standing, Walking, Lifting up to 20 pounds


 


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT


 


Up to 20 hours/ week May 4, 2026 - August 30, 2026, with office hours between 9:00 am - 4:00 pm. 
Up to 20 hours/week September 2026 - April 30, 2027, with office hours between 9:00 am - 9:00 pm.
Will work around the student's schedule. Some weekend work may be required for this position.
