The Opportunity

Reporting directly to the Manager, Transportation Engineering, this role is responsible for supporting the Transportation Engineering Division in the safe and efficient movement of pedestrians and vehicles on Town-owned roads, sidewalks, and walkways. You will gain hands-on experience in transportation engineering, road safety, traffic operations, and municipal project delivery. You will be responsible for assisting with transportation studies, technical reviews, community engagement initiatives, and administrative support functions. As the Student, Traffic Engineering, you will perform the following duties, including but not limited to:

• Assist Transportation Engineering staff in delivering projects related to traffic calming, parking reviews, speed reviews, road safety strategies, and traffic control management


• Conduct site visits and support transportation and traffic safety studies


• Assist with the review and preparation of transportation technical reports, presentations, correspondence, and meeting materials


• Support community consultation and engagement events and respond to customer inquiries and service requests


• Assist with daily administrative operations, meeting coordination, records management, and Transportation Engineering software administration

The Ideal Candidate

We are seeking a motivated student working towards a degree or diploma in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Planning, or a related field and are returning to school in Fall 2026.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated knowledge of transportation planning and engineering principles, statistics, and traffic safety concepts. We are seeking an individual with superior analytical and organizational skills, a demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment, and excellent verbal and written communication skills.

The successful candidate for Student, Traffic Engineering will possess proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint). Knowledge of Transportation Engineering Software (TES) and/or Armadillo is considered an asset. A valid G2 driver's licence in good standing and access to a reliable vehicle are required. Candidates must provide their own CSA Green Patch safety footwear.

The successful candidate for Student, Traffic Engineering will be required to work a flexible schedule, including in the office, remotely, outdoors for site visits, and after hours as required.

This position offers an hourly range of $21.18 - $00.

Satisfactory proof of schooling or return to school, may be requested.
