ABOUT THIS COMMITTEE

This is a volunteer position on a student governance committee from May 2026 to April 2027. While this is an unpaid role, student committee members will have the opportunity to make meaningful contributions and develop transferable skills.

The Health and Dental Plan Committee meets once a month over the course of the year for one hour. Health and Dental Plan Committee expectations include but are not limited to:

• Offer strategic advice and support in the ongoing development and negotiations surrounding the Health and Dental Plan.


• Work in conjunction with the Health and Dental Plan provider, the Students’ Union management, the Vice President Student Life, and the Vice President Operations and Finance to appraise and disseminate messaging relating to the Health and Dental Plan.


• Appraise and review developments related to other student associations’ policies, procedures, and practices surrounding their Health and Dental Plans.


• Assist with the coordination of qualitative and quantitative student consultation to identify student needs and inform future recommendations to the Health and Dental Plan.


• Maintain an active awareness of the details and logistics surrounding the current Health and Dental Plan.


• Support the Students’ Union in resolving strategic and relevant concerns brought forward by constituency members.
  

EXPECTATIONS AND TIME COMMITMENT

This committee will meet on an as-needed basis. The meeting schedule is subject to change based on the availability of committee members. Committee members are expected to attend as many meetings as possible, and carefully review all meeting materials in advance so they can make informed decisions. 

QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must be University of Alberta undergraduate students registered in at least one course for credit in the Fall and Winter semesters of the 2026/27 academic year. They must also be opted into the Health and Dental Plan. Experience with analyzing and interpreting qualitative and quantitative data is an asset.
