Job Description - Summer Club 1 on 1 Camp Assistant (4-month contract)

WHO WE NEED

We are seeking 1-to-1 Camp Assistants to support campers who benefit from additional assistance in order to fully participate in ROM Summer Club.

Working closely with instructors and the camp team, this role provides individualized support to campers with diverse needs, including neurodivergent campers and those with physical disabilities. The 1-to-1 Support Assistant plays a key role in fostering an inclusive, safe, and engaging environment by adapting activities, supporting routines, and ensuring meaningful participation in all aspects of camp.

This role is ideal for individuals who are compassionate, adaptable, and experienced in supporting children with diverse learning and care needs.


HOW YOU WILL MAKE AN IMPACT
  • Review the assigned camper’s profile and conduct a pre-camp caregiver phone call to build familiarity and trust.
  • Prepare customized materials to support camper inclusion and engagement.
  • Promote full participation in camp activities, adapting games, movement through the Museum, and field trips as needed.
  • Provide consistent support during breaks, lunchtime, and transitions.
  • Ensure the camper’s daily care routines, health support needs (including medications), and adaptive equipment use are safely managed.
  • Act as a friendly and respectful point of contact for caregivers, keeping them informed of their child’s experience.
  • Model inclusive behaviour, support positive interactions, and help foster meaningful connections between campers and their group.
  • Work closely with instructors to integrate the camper’s needs into daily activities.
  • Support other duties related to inclusive program delivery as assigned.

WHAT YOU BRING
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience working with children in educational or camp settings.
  • Previous experience supporting children with disabilities (e.g., neurodivergent campers, or those with ADHD, ASD, cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, or learning disabilities).
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative team, showing patience, flexibility, and empathy.
  • Must be at least 16 years of age by the start of the contract.
  • Strong assets include:
    • First Aid/CPR certification.
    • Secondary education or coursework in museum-related fields such as Art, Archaeology, Life Sciences, Earth Sciences, or History.
    • Coaching or lifeguard certifications.

SALARY & TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
  • START DATE: May 24, 2026
  • END DATE: September 4, 2026
  • OPEN DATE: April 15, 2026
  • CLOSE DATE: Open until filled
  • STATUS: Part-time contract
  • EMPLOYEE GROUP: Non-Union
  • HOURLY RATE: $18.10
  • SCHEDULE: 24-35 hours weekly
  • LOCATION (onsite): Toronto, ON
