Summer Early Learning Educator Assistant




Location: 12308 111 Avenue #200, Edmonton, Alberta            


Closing Date:  April 3, 2026, or Until Suitable Candidate Found.


Position Status: Three (3) Full Time (40 hrs per week), Temporary (May-August)   


 


The Otipemisiwak Métis Government is recruiting for three (3) full-time, temporary, Summer Early Learning Educator Assistants. These are summer term positions with an end date of August 28, 2026. Reporting to the Early Learning and Child Care Centre Manager, the successful candidates will assist with programs and services for the Early Learning and Child Care (ELCC) program. The successful candidate will have excellent communication and organization skills and have the ability to both take direction and work intuitively to support the completion of the department’s goals and objectives in a professionally and culturally appropriate manner.


 


Key Responsibilities



  • Assist the Early Learning Educators (ECE’s) in researching ideas and planning programming for the Early Learning and Child Care program.

  • Assist with day-to-day activities such as cleaning, arranging rooms, cooking, and setting up activities.

  • Connect with Caregivers at day’s end to discuss each child’s experiences.

  • Assess programming effectiveness and provide recommendations as necessary.

  • Support ECE’s in multi-purpose/large group programs as required.

  • Document daily activities such as naps, diapering, and outdoor play in the Child Friendly app.

  • Be a representative for and participate in Otipemisiwak Métis Government community engagements Children and Family Services (CFS) initiatives, and other opportunities.

  • Present a positive and professional image of the organization when interacting with employees, citizens, visitors, and other external stakeholders.

  • Support other Otipemisiwak Métis Government CFS initiatives and perform other duties as required or assigned.


 


Skills & Competencies 


We are looking for motivated, confident individuals who are passionate about early learning and child care with respect to Métis children and families. Commitment to teamwork and collaboration with colleagues is required. Other skills/competencies include:



  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including professional email etiquette.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships.

  • Strong planning and organizational skills, with an ability to organize and prioritize daily tasks and long-term objectives.

  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

  • Willingness to learn and develop new skills.

  • Flexible and adaptable, with an ability to switch between multiple priorities.

  • Ability to work with and convey messages to different audiences.

  • Ability to produce professional reports, documents, and presentations.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite applications, Adobe, and Google Workspace.

  • Political and cultural sensitivity.

  • Compassionate, empathetic, and trustworthy.

  • Knowledge of Métis history, culture, and issues affecting Métis people. An in-depth understanding of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government and Métis culture is an asset.


 


Qualifications



  • Obtained or pursuing a post-secondary education in Early Childhood Education, or a related field is preferred. Other relevant training and experience will be considered.

  • Experience working in the Child Care field is an asset. School or volunteer experience is valid experience.

  • Indigenous Awareness Training is an asset.


 


Other Requirements



  • Availability to work Monday to Friday 8:30 am – 4:30 pm.

  • Ability to work evenings and weekends, with notice.

  • Ability to travel throughout Alberta, with notice.

  • Reliable transportation is a requirement.

  • Acceptable attainment of a Police Information Check with a Vulnerable Sector Check, and an Intervention Record Check is required.
