Summer General Maintenance Laborer

(2 positions available)

This position is suitable for those interested in trade and who are mechanically inclined. This position is within the Facility Team, looking after two campus locations. There will be formal and informal training throughout the summer. This is a Government Grant position, and to qualify you must be between the ages of 15 – 30, be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident, and be legally able to work in Canada.

Key Accountabilities:

• Lawn care technician, maintaining large fields at two campuses.


• General yard work, watering planters, some weeding, limited exterior repairs.


• Perform general tasks inside buildings. (Painting, minor carpentry work, minor plumbing, maintain a clean work area).


• Perform installations, assembling, fittings, repairs, and replacements as needed.


• Complete daily work assignments in a timely and accurate manner.


• Restock maintenance materials and equipment.


• Maintain clean, safe, and organized work area.


• Operate maintenance equipment safely to avoid accidents. 

Additional Requirements/Responsibilities:

• Experience maintaining large lawns using ride-on lawn mower and other equipment.


• Works well independently with little supervision and works well within a team setting.


• Able to lift 50 lbs.


• Complete Abuse Prevention process (internal training)


• Attend staff meetings and staff chapels as scheduled.


•  Follow and live by the “Rule of Life” adopted by the entire SPAC staff and adhere to the policies and procedures of the Staff Handbook.

Qualifications:

• Must be between the ages of 15 – 30


• Must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.


• Highschool diploma


• Understanding key instructions is vital, therefore fluency in English is required


• Team Player


•  Aptitude for using power tools is an asset.

Working Hours:  35 hours per week

Special Notes:

• Working Days – Monday – Friday (Rare Saturday shifts / weather dependent)


•  Approximate dates: Beginning of May to end of August


• Promote reliability and safety culture throughout the organization.


• Other duties as assigned.
