CONGREGATIONAL LIFE ASSISTANT
Department: Congregational Life
Reports to: Congregational Life Pastor
Status: Full-Time (May 11 to August 30, 2026)
Position Overview:
The Congregational Life Assistant will support several Congregational Life projects, helping the Congregational Life Pastor and the Congregational Engagement Coordinator to implement a variety of initiatives that would increase the church’s engagement in the community.
Major Responsibilities:
Assist with the development, implementation and evaluation of a comprehensive strategy to strengthen our ministry to students and young professionals in order to raise a generation of gospel-centered, globally minded Christians.
In partnership with Communications department, assist with the social media strategy to help congregants connect with one another more efficiently
Support community building activities occurring at the Connection Centre
Support the Congregational Life Pastor with the development of effective strategies to develop and grow (both qualitatively and quantitatively) our ministry to young professionals and singles, including international students by connecting and interacting with them though regular gatherings, Life Groups, and local and global involvement.
Work closely with our Newcomers Pastor and our Young adults pastor to serve international students, ensuring that they are welcome and engaged in The Peoples Church community.
Strategize, implement, and oversee the global engagement of our congregants, in partnership with our Global Missions department.
Seek to get young professionals, both churched and un-churched involved in our church community and engage with all aspects of church life, both locally and through our global partners.
Assist with welcoming activities on Sundays and during special events.
Qualifications:
University or college student or graduate, or equivalent.
Experience in community development, customer service or people engagement, especially in a church setting
Demonstrated strong moral character, integrity above reproach and honesty
Passionate and intuitive about the challenges facing young professionals both Canadian and internationals, both at church and in the marketplace
Experienced in working in an environment that is both culturally and ethnically diverse.
Creative thinker, who is a team player with a positive attitude and an ability to work independently.
Culturally relevant and a good understanding of issues pertaining to faith at work or the interface between faith and culture.
Able to lead small group discussions both in-person or online.
Technologically savvy. Knowledge of CRM programs such as Salesforce an asset.
Able to work on Sundays.
Understand and support mission, vision and values of The Peoples Church
Working Conditions:
Full time including Sundays.
Work location is primarily at 374 Sheppard Avenue East, Toronto, Ontario (Bayview & Sheppard). However, some remote and offsite work may be required (i.e. at one of our Refugee houses or during the church’s offsite events).
Vulnerability Sectorclearance required.
Interacts regularly with congregants, lay leaders, local and global partners, and community stakeholders.
Support and understand TPC vision, mission and Statement of Faith.
