Summer Student Coordinator - 15 Week Placement

Are you a proactive, organized, and people‑focused individual with a passion for supporting youth? We’koqma’q First Nation is seeking a Summer Student Coordinator to lead and support our Summer Employment Program.

As the primary point of contact for summer student employees, the Coordinator plays a key role in ensuring a positive, well‑organized, and successful summer work experience for students and supervisors alike.

Key Responsibilities

Program Coordination & Leadership

• Coordinate and support the day‑to‑day operation of the Summer Employment Program.


• Ensure program activities align with Employment & Training Department goals and timelines.


• Support placement set‑up, onboarding, and completion requirements.

Student Support & Supervision

• Act as the main point of contact for summer students throughout the 15‑week term.


• Provide guidance, problem‑solving support, and encouragement to students.


• Ensure students understand expectations and complete assigned duties.

Scheduling & Operations

• Assist with planning schedules, orientations, meetings, and program activities.


• Track participation, attendance, and program progress.


• Submit bi‑weekly student hours to the Director of Employment & Training as required.

Communication & Collaboration

• Maintain clear and professional communication with students, supervisors, and department staff.


• Support conflict resolution and address issues in a respectful, solution‑focused manner.


• Maintain confidentiality at all times.

Qualifications & Skills

• Post‑secondary education and/or experience working with youth is a strong asset


• Excellent organizational and time‑management skills


• Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem‑solving abilities


• Ability to plan, schedule, and manage multiple tasks


• Comfortable using Microsoft Word and Excel


• Ability to maintain confidentiality


• Experience in conflict resolution is considered an asset

Conditions of Employment

• Must be a We’koqma’q Band Member


• Must commit to 15 weeks of employment


• Valid Nova Scotia Driver’s License and access to a vehicle


• Clear Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check


• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
