The Market Risk Summer Student supports our Energy Risk Management team in monitoring and analyzing ENMAX’s energy market activities. You’ll assist with daily market risk reporting, maintain risk models and trading records, and collaborate with various risk management functions (like Credit and Treasury). This role provides exposure to Alberta’s electricity and natural gas markets and is a great opportunity to apply your quantitative skills in a real commodity risk environment.

This position is part of ENMAX’s 16-week Summer Student Program (2026). ENMAX invests in future talent by providing real project experience and mentorship. Applicants must be enrolled full-time in a relevant post-secondary program and returning to school after the summer term.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Provide timely market risk reporting and compliance monitoring for front-office trading teams and senior management

  • Assist in maintaining the Energy Trading and Risk Management (ETRM) system of records, including updating commodity valuation data and explaining daily P&L changes

  • Support the upkeep and enhancement of risk processes, analytical tools, and quantitative models (and contribute to model improvements as needed)

  • Collaborate with other risk management areas (Enterprise Risk, Credit, Treasury, etc.) to ensure a comprehensive and effective risk management program

Education Required: Currently enrolled in a quantitative degree program (e.g., Finance, Economics, Mathematics, or Engineering) and returning to full-time studies following the work term.

 Qualifications & Experience:

  • Strong analytical and data-handling skills, comfortable working with large datasets and financial calculations

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other Office tools for analysis and reporting

  • Solid research abilities and attention to detail when investigating market rules or trends

  • Basic programming or scripting skills (e.g., Python, SQL) and familiarity with data visualization (Power BI, Tableau) are assets

  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to clearly document analysis and explain results

Salary: Administrator Level B Step 1 – $24.82 / hour based on current CUPE Collective Agreement rates

Location: This role is part of our hybrid work model, with office workspace at ENMAX Place (141 – 50 Avenue SE, Calgary, AB). You will work from home on Mondays and Fridays, and in the office on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
