Job Description - University Research Assistant (Research and Policy Assistant)
About the Opportunity
This position is offered through the Canada Summer Jobs program and is a great opportunity for students or youth looking to gain hands-on experience in a professional, team-based environment.
You will conduct literature reviews, surveys, and data analysis to support reports, briefing notes, and research summaries related to post-secondary policy, Indigenous education, and labour market trends.
The role involves compiling and analyzing both qualitative and quantitative data, assisting with environmental scans, and supporting the development of strategic and operational recommendations. You will also help coordinate community engagement activities and collaborate with internal teams to identify service delivery gaps and support program improvements.
This role offers valuable, practical experience for those interested in research, policy development, and community-focused initiatives, or administrative careers.
As per Canada Summer Jobs program requirements, candidates must be:
Between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at start of employment
A Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or a person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
Legally entitled to work according to BC legislation and regulation.
International students are not eligible. Recent immigrants are eligible if they are Canadian Citizens or permanent residents.
Job Duties
Conduct literature reviews, surveys, laboratory experiments, and other research for scholarly publications
Compile research findings and assist with analysis and preparation of journal articles and research papers
Conduct research on post-secondary policy, Indigenous education, and labour market trends to support MNBC Métis College development and STEPS initiatives
Assist in drafting briefing notes, environmental scans, and research summaries to support strategic and operational decision-making
Support coordination of community engagement activities
Collect, organize, and analyze qualitative and quantitative data to support policy and program improvements
Collaborate with Employment Services to identify and address service delivery gaps
Use and adapt to various technologies (e.g., Word, Excel, databases, and other software)
Handle sensitive information with confidentiality
Collaborate effectively in an office and team environment (experience considered an asset)
Education
In pursue of or holding College diploma/University degree in related field
