Position Summary
Under the direct supervision of the Curator/Supervisor, Oil Museum of Canada, the Visitor Services & Programming Summer Student plays an important role in being an educator to visitors about the important oil history of the area while assisting the Educational Program Coordinator in the delivery of public programs and special events. Additionally, the student assists the Reception/Visitor Engagement Clerk with admissions, gift shop sales, social media engagement, tourism inquiries and conducting light maintenance and cleaning as required.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Visitor Engagement
• Assist with daily opening and closing procedures.
• Cash handling of admissions, gift shop sales and museum memberships.
• Light cleaning of the outbuildings.
• Greet and provide orientation for incoming visitors.
• Capture and compile data of visitors.
• Answer phone calls and respond to tourism inquiries.
Programming
• Assist with the delivery of booked educational programs (summer camps, and adult tours).
• Contribute to the organizing and planning of museum special events.
• Contribute articles to museum newsletter.
• Create future social media content; write content, take photos, and create post theme ideas.
• Prepare and replenish program supplies.
General:
• Incumbents must keep up-to-date on all relevant legislation, collective bargaining agreements, County Policies and Procedures, etc. ensuring that these are implemented as prescribed
• Incumbents must possess the physical ability to meet the duties and responsibilities of the job description and/or the requirements identified within the position's Physical Demands Analysis.

Credentials Required
Minimum Formal Education
• Enrolment history or material culture program at a recognized University or College.
• Must be returning to school in upcoming school year.
Experience
• Customer service and experience working with databases would be an asset.
• Experience delivering tours or working with children is an asset.
• Knowledge of local/oil history is an asset.
Candidates must meet Young Canada Works (YCW) eligibility requirements. To be eligible you must:
• be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada.
Note: Non-Canadian students or graduates holding temporary work visas or awaiting permanent status are not eligible.
• be legally entitled to work in Canada.
• be between 16 and 30 years of age at the start of employment.
• have finished the school term at the start of employment.
• meet the specific eligibility criteria of the program to which you apply.
• be registered in the Young Canada Works (YCW) online candidate inventory.
• be willing to commit to the full duration of the work assignment.
• not have another full-time job (over 30 hours a week) while employed with YCW.
• have been a full-time student (as defined by his or her educational institution) in the semester preceding the YCW job.
• intend to return to full-time studies in the semester following the YCW job.
