ABOUT SAMU 


 


The Students' Association of MacEwan University (SAMU) is a non-profit organization working independently from MacEwan University to support students. Our purpose is to enrich the student experience by focusing on their non-academic needs through an array of student-driven programs and services.


 


We are governed by elected student representatives who set the strategic vision on behalf of students. With support from over 50 full- and part-time staff, we keep our mandate student-focused to achieve the vision.

PURPOSE


 


The Volunteer Assistant supports the efficient operation of volunteer program within SAMU. The successful candidate will assist in the recruitment, onboarding, and management of volunteers.


 


By aiding in the maintenance of strong relationships with volunteers and internal teams, the Volunteer Assistant contributes to the overall mission and objectives of SAMU, fostering a collaborative and engaged community dedicated to achieving our goals.


 


SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES


 


Volunteer Management



  • Assist in the recruitment of volunteers.

  • Coordinate and schedule volunteer orientations and training sessions.

  • Maintain accurate volunteer records, schedules and files within volunteer databases.

  • Monitor volunteer performance and provide ongoing support.

  • Organize volunteer appreciation events and activities.

  • Assist with development and implementation of Volunteer Incentive Program



  Administrative Duties



  • Maintain and update HR and volunteer related documentation.

  • Respond to inquiries from potential volunteers

  • Assist with general administrative tasks as needed.

  • Support Volunteer projects and initiatives

  • Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE


 



  • Preference will be given to current MacEwan Students registered in a minimum of one class during either Fall 2025 or Winter 2026 term.


 


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES


 



  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and strong technological aptitude are required.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy

  • General knowledge of SAMU is considered an asset. 

  • Excellent communication (written and verbal), interpersonal, and collaboration skills. 

  • Possess strong organizational skills. 

  • Ability to work independently.


 


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS



  • Previous volunteer experience will be considered an asset 
     


WORKING CONSIDERATIONS


 



  • Primarily a sedentary office setting with standard office equipment.

  • Ability to sit for extended periods, use a computer and other office equipment, and occasionally lift up to 20 pounds

  • Regular interactions with colleagues, volunteers, and external partners.


 


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT


 


Up to 20 hours/week with office hours between 8:30 am - 4:30 pm. Will work around the student's schedule. Some evening and weekend work may be required for this position.
