Job Description - Public Relations Consultant/Advisor - Part-Time

Expression of Interest - Part-time Public Relations Consultant/Advisor

The Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton County is a vital community healthcare partner. The Society is led by a dynamic board of directors and committed volunteers who work in partnership with Society staff, a dedicated Palliative Care Service team and donors to ensure that palliative care needs across our community are met.

The Society has been in existence for over 35 years and has grown from a small grassroots organization ensuring that our community enjoys excellence in end-of-life care to becoming owners and stewards of a 10-bed hospice located on land graciously provided by Membertou First Nations. The hospice officially began taking patients in March of 2022.

The Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton County, with the generous support of our donors and volunteers, works collaboratively with Nova Scotia’s Health Authority’s Palliative Care Service to offer quality programs to individuals referred for palliative care throughout our community – be it at home, in a long-term care facility, in hospital, the An Cala Palliative Care Unit or Hospice Cape Breton.

While the Society owns the hospice building and provides support for a variety of patient and family services, the palliative care “Service” is run by the Nova Scotia Health Authority.

As the Society grows, it is considering options for delivering its public relations, marketing and communication activities.

The Society would like to hear from experienced public relations practitioners/consultants interested in providing part-time support to the Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton County.

The work will be completed under the direction of the Society’s Executive Director, in collaboration with the PR Committee, and will provide PR, communications and marketing support to other Society committees when required.

This hybrid position (working remotely and on-site occasionally) will provide PR, Communications, and Marketing advice and support in the following areas:

  • Strategic PR/Marketing and Communications Planning
  • Media Relations
  • Materials Development Coordination for public-facing assets/content (documents, materials, social media, web, video, radio and advertising)
  • PR Support for Events
  • Promotional Campaigns Coordination
  • Coordination of Suppliers (print, design, social, PR)
  • Video and Photo Acquisition Coordination
  • Content Management for Digital Assets (social, media and web development)
  • Coordination of Promotional Materials for Sponsorship
  • Assistance with Sponsorship Fulfillment Activities / Materials
  • Liaising with Nova Scotia Health for PR-Related Activities

If you are interested in this exciting new opportunity, please send a cover letter highlighting related experience, and include a resume, project-based hourly rates, and a portfolio of recent work.

Please send submissions to the attention of Corrie Stewart at [email protected] .

Deadline for submissions is April 30, 2024.
