Alternative Municipal Budget Research Assistant


SUMMARY: The CCPA Manitoba Office Research Assistant will support the research, editing, and writing process for the 2026 Winnipeg Alternative Municipal Budget. 



REPORTS TO: Senior Researcher (Errol Black Chair in Labour Issues)



DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Project management of the Alternative Municipal Budget. 

  • Background research for chapter authors and writing 1 - 2 chapters. 

  • Support community engagement and knowledge mobilization. 



REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:


Research



  • University training in the social sciences (senior undergraduate or graduate). 

  • Strong quantitative research and writing skills. 

  • Dedication to research and advocacy toward social and economic justice. 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 

  • Good at troubleshooting and asking for assistance or support when necessary. 

  • Experience with community-based research methods is considered an asset. 


Interpersonal



  • Non-judgmental and respectful

  • Great verbal communicator and listener

  • Responsible and reliable

  • Good attention to detail

  • Basic understanding of conflict resolution procedures 



WORKPLACE: The position is based at the CCPA Manitoba office, located at 583 Ellice Ave, Winnipeg. This space is wheelchair accessible. Some hybrid work is possible, but not guaranteed.



ELIGIBILITY: We seek a Master's Student in social sciences or economics. The position starts in September 2025 and ends in May 2026. 



$27 / hour for a total of 300 hours over eight months (September - May). This is approximately 10 hours/week.
