Job Description - Assistant Teacher, Literacy and Numeracy (Grades 2-3)

REPORTS TO: Coordinator of Literacy and NumeracyPOSITION GROUP: Support StaffSTATUS: Ten Month, Full- or Part-Time, Temporary or Probationary Calgary French & International School (CFIS) is a full French language immersion co-educational independent school, serving over 780 students from preschool through to Grade 12. For over 50 years, families have chosen CFIS because of our immersive French language learning environment that inspires children’s unique curiosity and exploration of the world around them. Our dedicated faculty, staff and administration team partner with CFIS families to provide an extraordinary learning experience. Our students benefit from innovative teaching and learning approaches to address global challenges, and are empowered to take responsibility as open-minded, curious citizens who are prepared for the ever-changing world around them. Job Description: CFIS is seeking candidates for an Assistant Teachers (Numeracy and Literacy) position in our Elementary Division for the 2024-25 school year, specifically working with students from grade 2 to 3. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: ? Assist in the implementation of numeracy and literacy support.? Assist in the implementation of the daily program and instructional activities.? Work with children individually or in small groups to develop knowledge, skills, and competencies.? Participate in maintaining a safe, clean, welcoming and inclusive classroom environment.? Support children’s ongoing development and growth, in alignment with best practices in French immersion education.? Maintain professional attitudes and loyalty to CFIS.? Participate in professional workshops or courses.? Maintain confidentiality about children, their families, and other employees inside and outside of the school. ? Recess and/or Cafeteria supervision, and? Other duties as needed. If the position is full-time, it will require the employee to work in Before or After School (BAS) programs. Qualifications : ? Early Childhood Education certification with a minimum of Level 1 Child Care Assistant required (or willingness to obtain).? Fluent spoken French is required ; Speaking English would be an asset, and? Valid first-aid certification (or willingness to obtain). Prior experience with children in Grades K-3 is desirable. The successful applicant will need to provide a recent Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening prior to commencing work. Skills, Technical and Behavioural Competencies Required: ? Interpersonal skills that foster collegiality and blend with CFIS’s values.? Commitment to continuous learning and growth, and? Proactivity in initiating support and assistance for students. Compensation: ? The position will be paid hourly as per the CFIS hourly pay grid based on relevant education and experience. ? The position is eligible for employee group benefits and the Level 1 – 3% RSP (Retirement Saving Plan) benefit. ? Two (2) weeks off in December, one (1) week off in each February and March, and in the summer when the school is closed.
