Job Description - Bridges Event Staff

This posting closes September 16th at 11:59pm, however, candidates will be evaluated throughout that time.



Reports to: Clubs Administrator


Hours: Variable (estimated to be around 8 - 10 hours per week)



General Scope:


The Bridges Event Staff will support the Clubs Administrator in managing the Bridges event space during events and scheduled programming. Responsibilities include preparing the event space, overseeing the smooth execution of events, and ensuring the space is properly closed and secured post-event. 



"Supervisory" Function         60%                               



  • Ensuring clients follow the rules and regulations of the Bridges Event Space, as per MSU and McMaster University policies in order to maintain a safe environment

  • Leading events within the space to foster an inclusive and diverse environment

  • Ensuring that clients and guests are respectful and do not damage furniture or infrastructure within the space

  • Responsible for preparing the event space as needed for scheduled events

  • Ensure Bridges Event Space is properly closed and secured post-events

  • Operate the AV equipment for Bridges Event Space and ensure equipment is handled with care and stored appropriately



Communications Function          25%               



  • Communicate frequently with the Clubs Administrator and immediately notify if there are any issues with the space, including damaged furniture or equipment

  • Attend staff meetings, as required

  • Interact with others in the MSU Clubs, McMaster University, and surrounding community

  • Communicate with clients in a professional manner


 


Other        15%    



  • Occasional content capturing from events for the MSU Bridges social media platforms

  • Other duties as assigned by the Clubs Administrator or Student Life Director




Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 



  • Ability to complete assigned tasks in a responsible and safe manner

  • Excellent interpersonal skills when dealing with conflict resolution and working with a diverse client base

  • Ability to communicate effectively and efficiently








            Effort & Responsibility 



            • Responsible for contributing to the success of events within the space

            • Physical labour including ensuring the space is ready and set up for events, including moving, adjusting furniture, and ensuring AV equipment needed is ready

            • Must be punctual for all shifts and communicate absences or shift changes in advance

            • Responsible for maintaining a professional image of the MSU

            • Responsible for providing an incident report, should they witness or take part in a situation in the Bridges Event Space

            • Attend shifts as scheduled by the Clubs Administrator

            • Ensuring that clients are adhering to MSU and McMaster University policies and procedures





                Working Conditions 



                • Shared office space

                • Time demands may exceed stated hours of work





                    Training and Experience 



                    • On the job training will be provided

                    • No previous experience required

                    • Experience with AV equipment is an asset






                          Equipment 



                          • Any equipment required will be provided
