RESPONSIBLE TO: Supervisor 


LOCATION: Barrie (165 Ferris Lane/299 Lakeshore Drive)

HOURS OF WORK: 28 Hours Per Week


UNIONIZED POSITION: OPSEU Local #332


COMPENSATION: $35.40- $38.64 per hour 


EFFECTIVE DATE: As soon as possible (6-month contract)


REASON FOR RECRUITMENT: Temporary Replacement




INTRODUCTION:


New Path Youth and Family Services is an accredited children’s mental health agency providing a range of compassionate, innovative and accessible services for children, youth and their families throughout Simcoe County. New Path respectfully acknowledges we are situated on the traditional land of the Anishinaabeg People which includes the Odawa, Ojibwe, and Pottawatomi Nations collectively known as the Three Fires Confederacy. 




PURPOSE OF POSITION:


The Brief Counsellor provides shorter term individual, family and group counselling to children, youth and their families at home, in school and throughout the community using a brief model of intervention. 



JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:



  1.  Assess the needs of children, youth and families, formulating treatment plans including goals and service strategies.

  2. Meet with clients and/or their families to provide support & counselling, using evidence based/informed programs.  

  3. Assist client(s) in making referrals to community resources as needed.

  4. Provide consultation to New Path Staff, other agency personnel or the community.

  5. Function as a supportive member of the team.

QUALIFICATIONS: 



  1. Bachelor of Social Work (B.S.W)

  2. Minimum two years' experience working with children, youth and their families in a children's mental health or related service

  3. Experience/training in Single Session Counselling

  4. Experience working with evidence based/informed programs

  5. Demonstrates strong engagement skills using a strengths-based approach and partners with client/family in treatment planning, goal setting and anticipated outcomes. 

  6. Recognizes, initiates and adapts to changing conditions and situations in the workplace. 

  7. Demonstrates awareness for the backgrounds, values, beliefs and traditions of staff, clients, families and communities we serve. 

  8. Continuously assesses and challenges assumptions, personal unconscious bias and commits to understanding diverse perspectives, experiences and their intersectionality. 

  9. Commits to ongoing training to build the knowledge, awareness and skills, that contribute to creating a culturally safe environment for staff, clients and families. 

  10. Competency and effective use of database and Microsoft Office systems. 

  11. Confident, articulate and professional when communicating verbally and in writing. 

  12. French language is an asset. 



WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Working hours are 11:30AM to 7:30PM on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays and 12:00PM to 8:00PM on Tuesdays. Flexibility is required. 

  2. This position is performed in office/on-site to support the in-person meeting preferences of our clients and families. 

  3. Willingness to travel to other agency offices and community using personal vehicle. Must have valid driver's license with minimum G2. 

  4. Prolonged periods of sitting and working on a computer.
