Job Description - CAPC PART TIME CHILD CARE WORKER

CAPC PART TIME CHILD CARE WORKER

Position Title: CAPC - Permanent Part Time Child Care Worker


Hours of Work: Flexible 16-hr work week


Salary: $28.58/hr


Competition Number: CAPC-04-08



POSITION SUMMARY



The CAPC Worker is responsible for providing support to children (0-6) and their families through the provision of holistic healing and preventative services. And to ensure that the goals, objectives and overall policy of the Community Action Plan for Children are adequately met within an Anishinabe Health and Wellness Framework. The CAPC Worker is also responsible for administering activity programs for children at other sites within an Anishinabe Health and Wellness Framework.



QUALIFICATIONS




  • Diploma or degree in Early Childhood Education.

  • Equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

  • Experience working in an Indigenous organization.

  • Ability to speak Ojibway, Oji-Cree or Cree.

  • Thorough knowledge of community services.

  • Ability to work independently, and as a team.

  • Enjoy spending time with children and looking after their physical, educational and emotional needs.

  • Knowledge of current health issues affecting Anishinabe people.

  • Effective verbal and listening communications skills.

  • Ability to be patient and kind, but firm when necessary.

  • Alert, observant, active and able to use judgment and initiative.

  • Reliable and consistent.

  • Providing a successful Police Records Check (Vulnerable Sector)

  • Flexible hours of work (16 hrs/wk)

  • Must provide proof of full Covid-19 vaccination or medical exemption

  • Must have a valid Class “G” Driver’s license, use of an automobile and appropriate insurance coverage is required

  • Must provide First Aid and CPR & AED Certification

  • Must sign Oath of Confidentiality

  • Must have Ontario Safe Food Handler Certification



RESPONSIBILITIES




  • Work from a wholistic perspective, utilizing the teachings of the medicine wheel and Seven Grandfather Teachings. 

  • Utilize Elders for teachings, healing and guidance.

  • Take personal responsibility to increase sensitivity, awareness and implementation of Beendigen’s cultural teachings and organizational practices in both professional conduct and work-related deliverables.

  • Support and encourage parent’s involvement in decision making, planning and implementation of project activities.

  • Provide child care services to the Crisis Home and Counselling Unit as required.

  • Coordinate activities in conjunction with existing community programs and facilities that meet Program goals and objectives.

  • Provide direct service and support with child development, infant stimulation, role modeling and alternative discipline techniques for single parent families.

  • Communicate regularly with community agencies, groups and families.

  • Provide Anishinabe Parenting courses to the community.

  • Ensure all child care materials are available, request replacements and/or repairs.

  • Provided on-going individual and group support with families in achieving personal goals.

  • Maintain information and resource materials for Program users.

  • Maintain accurate and complete statistical information, mileage logs, petty cash purchase receipts and additional reports as required.

  • Develop and provide prevention programs for high-risk families of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, Fetal Alcohol Effect and Solvent Abuse.

  • Ensures Health and Safety compliance in the workplace by following policies, procedures and best practices and reporting any unsafe environments.

  • Follow confidential handling of client information as dictated by Privacy Legislation.

  • Constructively participate in staff and team meetings, seminars and training sessions as required.

  • Adhere to all policies and procedures and ensure adherence to program best practices.

  • To be prepared to work in conjunction with the philosophy and mandate of the Organization.

  • To preserve confidentiality of all residents, clients, staff, students, volunteers and agency information.

  • To represent the organization in a positive and professional manner at all times.

Promotes Beendigen at all times, when networking and events.


To adhere to professionalism in always representing the organization.


Maintain excellent communication and community connections.

Adhere to the Policies and Procedures as set by Beendigen.


Models expected behaviors as outlines in the Policies and Procedures of Beendigen.


Representation on committees as required for the enhancement and benefits of Beendigens programs.


Always maintain professionalism.


Adherence to the Code of Ethics and positive relationship building.


The completion of functions outlined in the description and the achievement of goals set to a high level.


Regular attendance and conduct at work according to the requirements of the Beendigens Policies and Procedures.



OTHER DUTIES



Any other duties as requested by the Program Manager, commensurate with role.

The number of adults and children attending programs though the year.

To execute duties and responsibilities outlined in the job description.



ACCOUNTABILITY:



The CAPC Child Care Worker will be accountable to the Program Manager for the proper completion of the functions outlined in the job description.
