Schulich School of Music - Communications and Production Unit
Position Summary
Reporting to the Associate Director, Communications and Production, and working closely with the Production, Event and Communications Administrator, the Communications Assistant supports the day-to-day implementation of communications activities at the Schulich School of Music (SSoM). Working under general direction, the role focuses on producing and distributing communications materials, supporting promotional initiatives, and assisting with digital and print content that promotes SSoM’s programs, people, concerts, and events.
The Communications Assistant works collaboratively with colleagues in Communications and Production (C&P) as well as with SSoM units and McGill partners, to ensure communications are accurate, timely, and aligned with institutional standards.
Key Responsibilities
Assist in producing, editing, proofreading, and formatting bilingual (English/French) content for websites, newsletters, social media, and promotional materials.
Support the creation and dissemination of content highlighting students, faculty, alumni, staff, programs, concerts, and events.
Prepare and update promotional materials for concerts and events across digital channels and print formats.
Assist with the day-to-day management of SSoM social media platforms, including drafting and reviewing posts and preparing visual assets.
Support the production and scheduling of digital content in coordination with the Communications team.
Act as a point of contact to support coordination with internal units and external collaborators (e.g., copy writers, photographers, videographers, designers, printers).
Assist with logistical coordination for communications-related initiatives, events, and photo or video shoots.
Ensure communications materials adhere to McGill and SSoM branding and marketing guidelines.
Qualifications & Skills
Experience supporting communications activities, including content production and promotion.
Ability to write and edit clear, engaging content in English and in French.
Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established guidelines and procedures.
Organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks under general supervision.
Ability to work collaboratively in a team-based, deadline-driven environment.
Knowledge of classical music, jazz, and concert music; familiarity with Montreal’s cultural scene.
Familiarity with social media platforms and basic content management tools.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365; experience with tools such as Canva, Adobe Photoshop, or InDesign is an asset.
Interest in music, arts, or cultural organizations is an asset.
