Job Description:

Accountabilities:

Food Bank

• Complete initial intake with clients.
• Assist clients in connecting with internal programs as well as local external services, agencies, and support.
• Ensure that all clients are treated with dignity and respect.
• Receive phone calls for food bank intake.
• Aid with processing, unloading, documenting, and sorting donations of food for the Food Bank program and assist with preparing donated items for distribution.
• Maintain food bank stock, cleanliness, tidiness, and organization of food bank area, if needed assist with food drives.
• Responsible for making sure any concerns with maintenance and general cleanliness of the Food Bank are forwarded to Ministry Unit Leader.
• Assist with pick-up and delivery of food and donations from/to donors and clients using program vehicle.
• Record statistical data in a clear, organized, and accurate manner.
• Ensure that program fliers and resource materials are stocked and available for distribution.
• Work with volunteers, keeping them informed and up to date regarding area services

Health and Safety

• Adherence to all health and safety standards.    
• Assist with ensuring that the Food Bank is maintained in regard to organization, appearance, maintenance and general cleanliness and safety as recommended by Public Health etc.
• Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.

Perform other related duties as required, in collaboration with Community Ministries Coordinator.

MANAGERIAL/Technical Leadership RESPONSIBILITY:

• This position reports directly to the Corps Officer

FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT:

• Assist with food bank materials management such as donations/product flow and distribution of same.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

• This is a temporary part-time position based on 14 hours per week. 
• Flexibility in scheduling is required.
• Ability to lift/move more than 40 lbs. and this job requires reaching, bending, and stooping frequently; working in a standing position for long periods of time.
• Working environment is typically in the office and warehouse in generally agreeable conditions.
• Your supervisor will set the hours of work and work schedule.

Education, Qualifications and Certifications:

• Some secondary school education
• Safe Food Handlers Certification is an asset.

Experience and Knowledge Requirements:

• Some experience working in a food bank is an asset

• Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check. 
• Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities. 

Compensation:

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
