  • Hourly Rate: $30.56/hr. - $35.95/hr.  (rate effective October 1, 2025)
  • Hours per Week: Tuesday-Thursday, every week year round. Due to the nature of work, the schedule of hours may fluctuate to meet operational requirements, including evenings, holidays, and weekends. 
  • Position Location: Lang Pioneer Village Museum (Keene, Ontario). Please be advised that this location is not accessible through public transportation.

What you'll do:

The Costume Coordinator plays a pivotal role in Lang Pioneer Village Museum’s operations, by creating and maintaining historically accurate attire for staff and volunteers to wear while interpreting to visitors and helping lead historical demonstrations and interpretations of 19th century life. The Costume Coordinator organizes and directs a team of volunteers, to ensure that the museums costume needs are met. 
  • Costume Creation: Research, purchase, and/or draft patterns for costumes and grade patterns into required sizes for museum staff and volunteers. Sew, alter and create period authentic costume pieces for wearing.
  • Volunteer Coordination: Coordinate and direct volunteers related to costuming requirements of the Museum. 
  • Costume Maintenance: Catalogue costumes and ensure any mending and laundering is complete for standard wear-and-tear.  Ensure each staff member and volunteer has costumes that work well for them.
  • Item and Prop Production: Design and create items for Museum Gift Shop sale and assist other staff and volunteers creatively to do the same.  
  • Demonstrate 19th Century Lifestyle: Teach museum staff and volunteers historic skills such as spinning, sewing, candle making, etc. Assist with out-reach and educational programs, such as sewing workshops. 
In accordance with County Policy, a Vulnerable Sector Check that is acceptable to the County will be required as a condition of employment.

  • Our non-negotiables: You have an educational background in business and/or a vocational knowledge of 19th century clothing styles and construction, and a valid Ontario driver's license, with a clean driver’s abstract.
  • Experience: You have 2 years of related experience in dressmaking/pattern making, costuming, arts and crafts, needlework, or metal work, along with a demonstrated ability to transform a concept or picture into a pattern and costume. 
  • Creativity: You excel at generating creative solutions to work situations by playing with different concepts and ideas to reach your end goal.
  • Interpersonal Skills: You enjoy interacting with others and would love the opportunity to work with and guide volunteers in assisting with the Museum's costuming requirements.
