Job Description:

Position Purpose

The Dining Hall & Food Services Worker provides professional, friendly, and welcoming services by providing excellent customer service, and oversight for the Jackson’s Point Retreat and Conference Centre’s (JPRCC) Dining Hall. The incumbent is the front of house contact for the dining hall and responsible for managing the customer experience while they are guests at The Salvation Army Jackson’s Point Conference Centre.

Key Accountabilities

  • Deliver exceptional customer service by welcoming guests, taking orders, and serving food and beverages in a prompt, friendly, and professional manner.
  • Guide patrons’ dining experiences by recommending menu items, explaining specials, addressing dietary restrictions, and answering food preparation questions.
  • Coordinate service flow by accurately recording and transmitting orders, communicating special requests, and managing meal timing with kitchen and bar staff.
  • Maintain an inviting dining environment by setting and resetting tables, replenishing supplies, and ensuring cleanliness and presentation standards.
  • Monitor guest satisfaction throughout the dining experience, proactively responding to additional needs and resolving complaints with a positive, solutions-focused approach.
  • Support food preparation activities by assisting with simple meal and beverage preparation as directed by culinary leadership.
  • Uphold sanitation and food safety standards by following safe food handling, storage, and preparation procedures to prevent cross-contamination and foodborne illness.
  • Ensure compliance with occupational health and safety regulations, including proper use of personal protective equipment and safe operation of kitchen equipment.
  • Manage hazard communication protocols by correctly handling cleaning chemicals and identifying potential allergens to protect guests and staff.
  • Document incidents and maintain basic records to support operational accountability and continuous improvement.

Education and Experience Qualifications

  • Completion of Secondary School.
  • Up to 3 months of related experience serving or waitering in a restaurant.
  • Cash handling experience, basic math skills, and knowledge of how to us a Point-of-Sale system required.
  • Food Safe Certification is required.
  • Ability to exercise good judgement, work neatly, efficiently, and safely.
  • Excellent customer service, organizational and time management skills; attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated/disciplined.
  • Lead by example, by demonstrating a strong work ethic and a willingness to learn and be flexible.
  • Ability to work independently and participate as an active and responsible team member.
  • Exhibit good listening skills, have strong oral/written communication skills in fast moving environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, integrity, and adaptability.

Compensation:

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
