Job Description - Food Pantry Assistant

Make a Difference with the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul Vancouver Island!



We have a part-time opportunity (15 hours per week) to join our team at Choices Food Pantry, a vital part of our Social Concern Office and emergency resource centre.



As the Food Pantry Assistant, you’ll play a part in the day-to-day operations of the pantry. Working closely with the Food Pantry Coordinator and reporting to the Support Services Manager, you’ll help manage inventory, receive and organize food orders, ensure food safety standards are met, and support logistics to keep the pantry running smoothly.

Highlights:



  • Participate as a member of the Social Concern Office team by:

    • Providing feedback on donation levels and targeted food drives

    • Gathering and sharing success stories with the program manager for social media publication and for engagement with the donors/members/volunteers.





  • Assist the Program Coordinator in organizing food drives and managing donations

  • Ensure Food Safe standards are maintained

  • Maintain a clean and organized environment by following the established cleaning schedule. Ensures Food Safe standards are maintained

  • Keep the fridges, pantry shelves and produce racks restocked and organized, to support volunteers to do their work

  • Support and work alongside volunteers with repacking, stocking dairy and shelves, and packing bread.

  • Receive, count and store all food products, ensuring shelves are stocked and replenished throughout the shift.

  • Monitor inventory levels and communicate needs to the Program Coordinator; assist in preparing requests for food, supplies, and PPE for submission to the Program Manager

  • Interact with volunteers, co-workers, and participants in a positive and respectful manner.



  • Perform other related duties as required.



Our ideal Housing Coordinator will bring the following:



  • High School education or equivalency.

  • Current Food Safe I certificate, and WHIMS preferred.

  • Excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suites.

  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and in a physically demanding environment including but not limited to working within enclosed spaces, at heights, and within changing environmental conditions.

  • Strong organizational and communication skills, fluent in English, both verbal and written.

  • Team player who can work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team.



Additional Requirements



  • A criminal record check including a Ministry of Justice Vulnerable Sector Clearance Letter is required prior to hiring
