We pride ourselves on creating a nurturing and dynamic learning environment where students develop the tools, skills, and mindset to succeed academically and thrive in life. Our commitment to building happy, motivated students ensures that they are prepared for a bright future.
InnovOak School is a Ministry Inspected Private School for Grades JK–12, granting both the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) and our own Honors School Graduation Diploma (ISHGD). Our academic program blends the Ontario Curriculum with Cambridge content, Singapore Math foundations, and LifeREADY principles. Instruction is aligned through our proprietary Everstone+ curriculum framework, which provides a structured and advanced approach to student learning across all divisions.
Position Overview:
InnovOak School is currently seeking a part-time Grades 6–8 Math Teacher to deliver a small-group program across three middle years grades. The teaching assignment includes seven periods per week, scheduled over approximately two periods per day, September through June. For the right candidate, this position may be combined with other open roles at the school.
This is an ideal opportunity for a retired teacher, a certified new graduate, or a private tutor with strong math skills and a student-first mindset. Our Math program is delivered using Everstone Math, an enhanced version of the Singapore Math model, which emphasizes mastery, deep understanding, and concept-to-application learning. Students in this program benefit from low teacher-student ratios and high instructional clarity.
Key Responsibilities:
Teach Grades 6–8 Math using the Everstone Math curriculum, which draws from and advances the principles of Singapore Math
Adapt instruction for multiple grades across seven weekly periods, with appropriate scaffolding for varied readiness levels
Differentiate within units to meet students at their current level while maintaining clear learning objectives and grade-level expectations
Support student mastery of problem solving, mathematical thinking, operations, and applied reasoning
Use manipulatives, visual models, bar modelling, and guided group instruction to deepen comprehension
Prepare and post relevant materials including weekly targets, unit plans, practice tasks, and assessment rubrics
Maintain an up-to-date gradebook using the school LMS (Blackbaud), with timely communication to families
Work closely with the curriculum lead to align instructional practice with school-wide expectations and inspection standards
Collaborate with homeroom teachers to ensure math learning is integrated into the broader school day when appropriate
Support a growth mindset in students and create a positive, confident, and enthusiastic learning environment
What We Are Looking For:
A personable, dynamic teacher who loves math and communicates that energy to students
Experience teaching or tutoring students in Grades 6–8, preferably using Singapore or concept-based math approaches
Skill in working with students who need extension as well as those who benefit from scaffolding or small-group re-teaching
A calm, clear presence who can manage a structured class and still make math engaging and relational
Interest in using visual and hands-on strategies to build depth of understanding before moving to abstraction
A collaborative professional who communicates well with students, parents, and colleagues
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Education, or a related field; Bachelor of Education preferred
Classroom or tutoring experience with middle years learners (Grades 6–8)
Familiarity with Singapore Math, Jump Math, or other mastery-based approaches is considered an asset
Ability to differentiate in a mixed-ability group using structured tools, talk-based math, and guided practice
Strong written and verbal English communication skills
Canadian citizenship or permanent residency is required
Additional Information:
This role includes seven weekly periods, scheduled across approx. two class blocks per day, September to June
Part-time role with flexibility; may be combined with other InnovOak opportunities for the right candidate
Instruction is delivered using Everstone Math, which aligns to but exceeds traditional Ontario expectations
All candidates must provide a current Vulnerable Sector Check and three professional references
Applicants who have previously expressed interest should reapply to confirm updated availability
