The Calgary TELUS Convention Centre is looking to hire for a short-term casual Housekeeper in our Housekeeping Services Department. The successful candidate would fill the spring term role from March – June 30, 2026.
Reporting to the Lead Hand, Housekeeping Services, the Housekeeper is responsible for maintaining high standards of cleanliness, sanitation, and presentation throughout the Calgary TELUS Convention Centre and the Glenbow Museum. This role supports a safe, welcoming, and well-maintained environment across public spaces, galleries, offices, event areas, and back-of-house facilities.
The Housekeeper performs daily cleaning and janitorial duties, supports event setup and teardown, follows established safety and environmental standards, and responds to service requests as assigned. While the role is based primarily at the Calgary TELUS Convention Centre, the position is also required to assist and coordinate with Glenbow Museum housekeeping operations as needed. The role requires flexibility to work mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays in a fast-paced, public-facing environment.
Duties and Responsibilities
Operations & Service Delivery
- Perform routine and detailed cleaning of all front-of-house and back-of-house areas, including public spaces, offices, galleries, washrooms, staff areas, and event spaces.
- Complete floor care duties such as sweeping, dust-mopping, damp mopping, auto-scrubbing, auto-sweeping, vacuuming, detail vacuuming, spot cleaning, shampooing carpets, and stripping/refinishing floors as assigned.
- Conduct general cleaning tasks including high and low dusting, dry and damp wiping, sanitizing surfaces, and polishing fixtures.
- Clean and maintain washrooms, including toilets, urinals, sinks, partitions, mirrors, countertops, dispensers, walls, and floors; replenish supplies as required.
- Perform window, glass, and overhead signage cleaning.
- Collect, sort, and dispose of waste and recycling from public, client, and staff areas.
- Provide porter services during client functions and events.
- Carry out general outdoor services such as litter removal, sweeping entryways and sidewalks, watering plants, and cleaning glass doors at entrances.
- Respond to housekeeping requests from staff and clients via radio or other communication tools.
- Flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, based on event activity.
Equipment and Supplies
- Operate cleaning equipment safely and correctly, including sweepers, scrubbers, vacuums, carpet and upholstery cleaners, buffers, and other janitorial tools.
- Conduct basic care of assigned equipment and report defects or maintenance issues promptly.
- Maintain a clean, stocked, and organized cleaning cart; replenish supplies as needed.
- Maintain janitorial closets, storage rooms, and equipment areas in a clean, organized, and safe condition
- Perform laundry duties, including washing and maintaining cotton and microfiber cloths, mop heads, and dust mops.
- Assist with inventory control and restocking as required
Health, Safety, and Environmental Stewardship
- Follow all Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) requirements, GHS guidelines, and safe work procedures.
- Safely handle, store, and use cleaning chemicals and materials according to training and labeling.
- Perform biohazard clean-up and sharps removal and disposal following established protocols.
- Use required personal protective equipment (PPE) and work safely at heights when assigned.
- Identify and report safety hazards, spills, or maintenance concerns to supervision.
- Ensure compliance with environmental sustainability practices in daily operations, including proper use of cleaning supplies and waste management

- Interact courteously and professionally with guests, clients, exhibitors, and staff while performing duties.
- Respond to cleaning or sanitation requests in a timely, respectful, and service-oriented manner.

Education
- Knowledge of GHS, occupational health and safety regulations, and safe handling of cleaning materials.
- Completion of commercial cleaning courses considered an asset.
Experience & Requirements
- Previous janitorial or housekeeping experience, preferably in a commercial or public venue setting.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Legally entitled to work in Canada.
- Must pass a criminal record check.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and overtime as required.
Physical Requirements
- Flexible schedule, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Physically demanding role requiring prolonged standing and walking.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and push/pull equipment up to 386 lbs.
- Comfortable working at heights.
- Fast-paced, event-driven environment with shifting priorities.
