Are you a detail-oriented lawyer looking for work-life balance while still making a meaningful impact and pursuing professional growth? As Legal Counsel at Binnie you will be responsible for reviewing and advising on contract documentation, agreements and RFPs. Your expertise in contract compliance and contractual risk assessments will assist us to minimize our exposure and reduce risk. You will work with all areas of the business and support strategies, operations, and keep up to date on changes to legislation, regulations, and relevant legal developments.
This part-time role will be three days per week (compensation will be directly aligned with the hours you work) with the flexibility of remote, hybrid, or an in-office work arrangement. Our BC Head Office is based in Burnaby and our Alberta Office is located in Calgary.
YOUR ROLE:
You are an experienced corporate lawyer with a strategic mindset and a keen interest in contract law. Your legal expertise will be instrumental in providing business-focused legal advice and improving Binnie’s corporate risk profile through teamwork and collaboration. You are proactive with a growth mindset and will help implement change.
Some of the key duties of this position include:
• Drafting, reviewing and negotiating a wide variety of contracts and agreements (i.e. consulting services agreements, subcontracts, industry standard contracts (e.g. AIBC and CCDC), licenses, leases).
• Provide internal training to business units on contractual provisions, compliance obligations and contract delivery models.
• Prepare contract template documentation.
• Provide support to Vice-President of Risk & Legal, General Counsel – including policy drafting and review, provision of legal support to various internal teams, and other day to day legal matters as they arise.
• Understand and comply with the Binnie Safety Program and all safety policies, safe work practices, safe job procedures and safety rules.
• Abide by Binnie’s established policies and procedures
• Other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
WHAT YOU BRING:
• Degree from a recognized Law School.
• Licensed member in good standing with the Law Society of British Columbia or Alberta.
• Minimum of 5 years post qualification corporate law experience, with significant experience in contract law.
• Knowledge of construction or professional services law preferred
• Ability to respond effectively to changing demands and priorities
• Ability to effectively prioritize work and handle multiple demands
• Ability to communicate with clients and staff in a professional and friendly manner
• Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships internally and externally with clients and vendors
• Excellent interpersonal skills through developing trust with others.
• Demonstrated professional conduct aligned with company values.
