Town of Wasaga Beach Recreation Department is seeking a Martial Arts Instructor to deliver high-quality programming within our Specialized Programs. The successful candidate will be responsible for instructing participants in martial arts techniques while fostering discipline, respect, confidence, and personal development in a safe and inclusive environment. This role is ideal for an energetic, enthusiastic instructor who is passionate about martial arts and enjoys working with participants of varying ages and skill levels.
General Responsibilities: The Martial Arts Instructor will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following duties:
Planning and delivering structured martial arts (karate) lessons for individuals or groups across a range of ages and skill levels
Demonstrating proper techniques and providing clear instruction to support skill development
Monitoring and evaluating participant progress and adapting instructional methods to meet individual needs
Ensuring participant safety during all classes by teaching proper form, technique, and injury prevention practices
Creating a positive, supportive, and respectful learning environment
Maintaining accurate and up-to-date records of attendance, participant progress, and testing results
Assisting with the promotion and growth of the martial arts program
Collaborating with the Head Instructor and Recreation Department staff
Staying current with industry trends, safety standards, and training methods related to martial arts instruction
Qualifications:
Certified Karate Instructor; minimum of three (3) years of instructional experience preferred
Strong verbal communication and instructional skills to effectively engage and motivate participants of all ages and abilities
Knowledge of various karate styles is considered an asset
Ability to adapt teaching strategies to suit different learning styles and skill levels
Demonstrated ability to create and implement safe, engaging, and challenging lesson plans
Good physical fitness and ability to demonstrate techniques clearly
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive relationships with participants and families
Commitment to participant safety and program quality
Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends
