Job Description - Page - Casual/Part-time

Summary: 


The Page is responsible for performing tasks related to collection maintenance: sorting, filing and retrieving of library materials to meet Library standards system-wide. Pages support library service by ensuring physical access to collections for staff and patrons. The performance of these tasks requires decision-making within defined parameters. Reporting to the Supervisor, Branch/Department, the Page works collaboratively with others and builds positive relationships with internal customers to contribute to the achievement of the London Public Library’s mission, vision, values and strategic goals. This list includes tasks carried out by pages in all departments and locations. Pages will do only the tasks appropriate to their department/location, as assigned by their Supervisor.


Accountabilities



1. Page Duties



  • Collaborates with Department/Branch staff to ensure that all Page functions are completed efficiently and on a timely basis.

  • Shelves and retrieves materials accurately, in accordance with established standards. Includes shelving of new or returned materials, various AV formats, information file material, periodicals, flyers, delivery address cards, etc. Retrieves items from various lists including paging list, missing list, clear Holdshelf etc.

  • Shelf reads area assigned, for correct order.

  • Assists with shifting materials as required.

  • Sorts materials for shelving, delivery, and if required programming.

  • Packs and unpacks delivery items including communication materials as required.

  • In VLS Department, packs and unpacks delivery items plus labels and bags materials for VLS delivery using Route Sheets as guides, placing prepared bags in

  • Route Delivery Order, unloading and sorting items from the VLS cages onto trucks in the workroom, labeling trucks.

  • Retrieves materials from library book chutes.

  • Checks cases and contents of AV materials.

  • Re-sensitizes library materials at the Central Library.

  • On occasion shelf checks are done at the request of staff.

  • Processes and delivers newspapers to various departments at Central Library.

  • Gathers/sorts library materials during survey week.

  • Prepares materials for library service. Includes applying labels, stamping, boxing items for book sale and/or recycling.

  • Carries out minor repairs to library materials, including replacing covers.

  • Prepares materials for programs and assists in the presentation of programs.

  • Sets up and arranges tables, chairs, and AV equipment for use in programs.

  • Uses equipment appropriate to the assigned tasks as directed by the Supervisor or other staff. Ie. Papercutter

  • Tidies library throughout the day and at closing by picking up materials left on tables and toys, straightening shelves, shutting down non-networked computers, etc.

  • Cleans computer monitors and keyboards as well as toys for story times and from the play area.

  • Filing and collating materials.

  • Delivery and pickup of paperwork at Central Library.

  • Provides limited public service, such as general building orientation and shelf location assistance; refers other requests for information to other library staff.

  • Page tasks do not involve the use of the automated collection management system.

  • Performs related duties as assigned.


 



    Qualifications:


    • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
    • The ability to balance priorities by being flexible and perform a set quantity of work within given time limits.
    • Strong detail orientation.
    • Demonstrated ability to work successfully in an automated environment.
    • Excellent internal customer service skills and ability to listen to customer needs
    • Page work requires the handling and moving of materials, using book trucks, boxes, and bags. Lifting, pushing, and bending are required in order to perform these tasks.


    Salary: $16.60 - $17.60
