This is a unique role for a Registered Nurse (RN) who will work full time within two diverse teams supporting both addictions and mental health. The RN will utilize a holistic approach for client services which includes assessment, treatment planning, and implementing care following the bio psychosocial model, in accordance with established policies and practices. 

The RN will provide addiction assessment and treatment in a team-based approach to individuals with substance use concerns in the Rapid Access to Addiction Medicine Clinic (RAAM).  This part-time role involves working collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team.  The remaining part-time role will include assessment and treatment on the Prevention and Early Intervention Program for Psychoses (PEPP) working within a team environment.

WHAT WE'RE OFFERING:

  • What you'll be making - Starting rate for this role is $32.13 per hour (Level 1 of the RN/OT Grid);
    • Successful external applicants will start at Level 1, with grid progression based on seniority up to Level 8, $41.41 per hour
    • Internal applicants will be placed on the grid based on their seniority
  • When you'll work - 70 hours biweekly; Monday-Friday 8:30am to 4:30pm
  • Your pension plan –Immediately eligible for optional enrolment in the Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP)
  • What your benefits will be – 9% in lieu of benefits

 

HOW YOU WILL BE MAKING A DIFFERENCE:

Direct Service

  • Responsible for screening, assessment and provision of nursing interventions and supports to individuals in the community working closely with the PEPP team 
  • Collaborate with mental health and addiction service providers to support the mental health, addiction and primary care health needs of clients who may be in crisis or involved with community mental health and addiction agencies
  • Supporting intake services
  • Providing addiction medicine in the community 
  • Administer Urine Drug Screens
  • Use technology to connect with individuals who experience barriers to system and treatment access
  • Administration of anti-psychotic depot injections 
  • Administration of opioid replacement therapy
  • Supporting other health needs and coordinating referrals to other needed resources

 Prevention and Early Intervention - Psychoses 

  • Developing treatment plans in collaboration with the individual and service providers
  • Health teaching with PEPP clients and their families/caregivers i.e. What is psychosis, mental health diagnoses, medication management, physical health care
  • Support the psychiatrist is treatment plans
  • Provide direct service by such interventions e.g. counselling, linkages to further specialized assessment as required, e.g. medical, clinical therapy, vocational, educational
  • Review and monitor blood work results, diagnostics, etc.
  • Adhere to standards of practice for PEPP programs 

 

WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO APPLY:
 

Police Vulnerable Sector Check Requirements
Successful candidates must have a Police Vulnerable Sector Check completed in the last six months. Interested applicants who reside in the City of London and are in need of a Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) are encouraged to apply for one as soon as possible as PVSCs in the City of London are currently taking approximately 2 weeks to be processed and offers of employment cannot be made without receipt of a PVSC.
 
We require the following qualifications:

  • Registered Nurse in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (primary proof of credentials will be required during the hiring process i.e. original degree/diploma or official transcript)
  • Valid driver’s licence and access to a vehicle for personal transportation
  • Current, satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC)
  • First-Aid/CPR Certification
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work regularly

We prefer the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree (BScN)
  • ASIST training 
  • Experience with electronic medical records
  • Nursing experience with a perspective that acknowledges and seeks to improve the impact of the social determinants of health
  • Working knowledge of chemical dependency, including the pathophysiology of substance abuse and withdrawal
  • Working knowledge of the bio-psychosocial model of care and best practices for co-occurring disorders
  • Working knowledge of community resources
  • Ability to work with clients experiencing serious addiction and mental illnesses and their families
  • Ability to facilitate groups and demonstrate leadership through teaching, coaching and mentoring
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with internal and external contacts including community and facility contacts, staff, physicians, clients, families, agencies
  • Ability to manage stress and deal with a wide range of medical, mental health, behavioural and emotional issues
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training 
  • Bilingual both official languages, preferred; préférence sera accordée aux candidats qui sont compétents dans les deux langues officielles du Canada
