Position Summary:
Our lab at the Montreal Neurological Institute of McGill University is looking to hire a Research Assistant 2. This position will provide support for research in genetic white matter diseases and other neurogenetic conditions with white matter involvement.

Examples of duties include:

• Support upgrade and maintenance of lab infrastructure and research participants database.
• Assist with the recruiting and obtaining consent of study participants. Schedule and/or contact subjects for appointments.
• Assist trainees and lab members with preparing experimental materials and performing wet lab experimental procedures using a variety of equipment such as balances, pipettors, laminar flow hoods, incubators, autoclaves, microscopes, spectrophotometers, centrifuges, chromatography apparatus, electrophoresis apparatus.
• Mentor junior trainees and support onboarding to lab procedures.
• Help ensure research quality, data integrity, and good laboratory practices including lab safety certifications.
• Coordinate timelines and workflows for multi-step experiments and collaborations.
• Process study compensation payments to recruited subjects. Assist with post-study activities, as needed.
• Review and verify accuracy of database information and assist in making necessary corrections according to specific guidelines.
• Assist PI and mentor junior trainees to prepare presentations and grant materials, including figures, slides, illustrations and other graphical material, following specific guidelines.
• Setup inventory of research equipment and supplies and assist in ordering as necessary.
• Assist PI to prepare correspondence, documents and reports, including submissions to the Institutional Review Board, following established guidelines.
• Maintenance and expansion of Open Science practices in use in the lab.

Education and Experience:
-- Possesses specialized knowledge of the field or discipline acquired through a Master’s Degree.

Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities:

Proficiency in English and French (written and spoken) required.

Experience in a neuroscience, rare disorders, or similar laboratory environment is preferred; undergraduate or graduate degree in a related field is an asset. General computer skills and ability to quickly learn computer programs (but not coding). Ability to work under deadlines with general guidance. Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to complete detailed work accurately. Effective oral and written communication skills. Ability to work well with trainees, colleagues, collaborators, and research participants. Sensitivity to cultural and linguistic differences of lab members, collaborators and participants. Commitment to personal responsibility and value for safety; communicates safety concerns; uses and promotes safe behaviors based on training and lessons learned. Commitment to Open Science practices.
